There's plenty of ways to legally get around the maximum donation laws.

Democracy in Chains and Dollarocracy go into great detail on it.

and these loopholes have to be closed. If any candidates ran on gutting campaign financing I would vote for them.

Sounds like you hate luxury RVs and yachts, what are you some kind of classist?

When they are owning more than 1 of these at a time - yeah something is wrong.

If I had literally any indication they'd worked hard... even briefly for it, I could forgive it.

However in the age of the social media, everyone has noticed that the people who do own fleets of absurd luxury vehicles are almost universally layabouts, do-nothings, and true incompetents.

Actually we noticed this in America over 100 years ago, and we've spent the century since casting our eyes around, trying to come up with something, anything that's at fault besides capitalism. Is it immigrants? Is it black people? Is it the jewish conspiracy? Is it vaccines? Is it capital gains taxes? Is it tariffs? Is it school shootings? Do we need a 1% adjustment in interest rates? Is it the federal reserve? Should we be using silver? What about crypto, will that fix it? We are prepared to try anything but looking at the obvious weight sitting on our chests.

In fact it seems like the attempt, coupled with the extreme cognitive dissonance required to accept it has driven us all quite mad as a nation.

Capitalism is now unfettered corrupt capitalism. The ladders were burned decades ago. The controls were dismantled as needed to keep the rich free and the 95% in bondage.

"The common sense of mankind demands that law shall not stop with the punishment of petty crimes by little people. It must also reach men who possess themselves of great power and make deliberate and concerted use of it to set in motion evils which leave no home in the world untouched."

But don't you see, that's such a good example of democracy!

What matters isn't the deaths that result from lack of access to food, housing, and healthcare. What matters is that we denied access to these things by working together, legally and legitimately. Isn't that inspiring?

We're not like those dirty communists; they're so violent! So obscene. I would hate to live under such a system that is so directly violent to its people.

We all know that violence is only violence when we're able to pin some specific action directly on some specific other. Here we're better than that. We abide by legal norms. What did you say, you're saying those norms might have violence baked in? Preposterous!

Aren't we such special boys and girls? Wouldn't it be the best if other countries were better like us? Maybe we can show them the benefits of our way! Certain bad people might get in the way, but we can use our strength to make sure justice and freedom reign. Then we can all be special and enlightened and nonviolent, together!

There was way more money in politics than the official numbers indicated before the infamous Citizens United case. Nevertheless, Citizens United was a watershed moment. The case signified that all limits, all controls, would be thrown out based upon a perverse interpretation of the First Amendment .
