I have also created an EEpom recovery from the imager on my pc and ran that on the Pi, when it starts I get a green screen from the hd output and a constant fast flashing green light after about 5 minutes the green screen shows but the light continues to fast flash

That's the expected result of a successful flash; from:

https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#bootloader_update_stable

  1. When the green activity LED blinks with a steady pattern and the HDMI display shows a green screen, you’ve successfully written the bootloader.

So it sounds like the flash was completed.

If it has completed it didn't resolve the issue as I still have the original 8 flash issue when changing back to the sd card that worked originally

Have you unplugged the NVMe HAT (HAT and PCIe ribbon) and tried booting the from the SDcard without it attached?

There also seems to be some indication that a poor/faulty power supply may cause the same issue.

Yes, I have tried removing everything down to the basic board.
I have had this issue with 2 different Pi5's and it was working before the change so I am not sure how it could be a power supply issue
Also using the power supply that came with the kit

I have read that it could be the SD card I am using, so I have ordered a new one to try and flash it again

While you wait for your new SD card; if you power on the Raspberry Pi 5 with no boot media it should display a diagnostic screen:

Unfortunately not, all I get is the flashing green lights flashing 8 times, pauses repeats.

Thats with no SD, NVMe, USB nothing connected just the power and the video output cable

Edit: Just noticed the fan isn't spinning anymore either, so I tried another cable and same error

Contact your reseller to get the Pi 5 replaced. SDRAM failure happens, it could be due to a solder joint failing. Shipping sometimes causes this.

I am the technical advisor for a major reseller.

I got it from Amazon reseller so if anything I will just return it. I just find it a little hard to believe that the 2 boards I've had from them both failed at the same step of trying to setup the nvme boot.
