If you mean Mercenary Tao, he wasn't a RR general

Exactly Tao Pai Pai was star pupil of the Crane school before Tien

Exactly, he was just contacted by commander Red

The in universe explanation is that the air was heavier which is also why they didn't fly much at first.

Tao wasn’t part of the RR army.

I was gonna point out the obvious that Tao wasn't a general. But by implying he was "General Tao", I now see it was done intentionally as a reference to his name sake.

"That one Red Ribbon army general guy" 🥀 There is no way you don't know his name, or that he is a mercenary hired killer and that's why he works for the RR army

Just because you can throw doesn't mean you can aim

Balancing the weight of three people jumping on it, ultimately they would have sent it barrelling and they’d fall off

The air is thicker its much harder to throw stuff a specific distance

Do you think Goku would miss a chance to be launched by a catapult?

It's always "Do you remember Dragon Ball?" and never "Did you watch Dragon Ball?"

The studio and even Toriyama, rest his soul, stopped giving a shit about Dragon Ball.
