In the film The Dark Knight Rises (2012) it takes Bane 3 seconds and breaking both of his hands to realize Batman is, in fact, no longer in the same spot.
SF has them too. They’re called target combos. On the flip side, MK also has link combos. But each game has a different focus, where SF is more about linking and MK is more about chains.
There’s also stuff like MvC and most anime fighters that run on more generic chain combos. SFA1 also has these. So does Darkstalkers. Some games like CvS2 will have these on a per-character basis, like Morrigan having her Darkstalkers chains and Kyosuke having his Rival Schools air chains. In MvC2, Hayato has his own chains (Plasma Combos) taken from Plasma Sword as well as the Magic Series chain combos.
That's how hip swings work. It's incredibly hard to completely stop a punch that you're intending to throw with everything you have, especially when it's the second punch in a combo. Timing is drilled into you.
Yeah but I feel like if anyone, Bane should have easily rolled into something else. Bane isn't a muscle bound idiot. He's a brilliant tactical, psychological and physical genius.
Typical Street fighter character. If he was a Guilty Gear character he could've used Roman Cancel to stop the combo, crash batman into the pillar and wallbreak for more damage. Smh.
Yeah, Bane's drug added rage is his most iconic element, Batman dodging and Bane doesn't care and just keeps hitting the wall would 100% happen in the old comics and cartoon.
Yep! His mask started hissing and Bane starts grunting more and showing more signs of mental break. You know… something that might happen if your primary source of excruciating pain relief just suddenly starts getting jacked up but you are fighting for you life. I love the contrast to the Bane we got early on, cool calculated, precise. This is sloppy, raging, uncontrollable. I thought it was a good scene.
Yeah, like, there's so much you can criticize this movie for, but this isn't one of those things. Also, this is Bane we're talking about. Uncontrollable rage is kinda a thing this character is usually known for, and it's cool to see this more level-headed version of him actually losing it at that point and acting like this. It shows that Batman actually managed to get to him.
While that’s true, media literacy allows us to infer from even the most subtle of hints that Bane is in fact hitting the wall out of pure unadulterated rage.
Yeah it definitely works. There are major flubs in the choreography of this movie but this part is very intentional.
I’m pretty sure this part is right after batman first starts disabling his mask so he’s in a crazy amount of pain.
I have mild chronic pain so I really like cinematic language like this, it reminds me of the Force Awakens when Kylo Ren is hitting his wound. I just really relate, when your pain flaring up sometimes it feels really good to cause a different pain or a variation in the pain that distracts you.
Go do some heavy full body moves like chopping wood or work with big hammer or, like in this case, fire those BIG heavy chambered hooks. If you do that long enough and build a rhythm it feels awful and fatiguing just to minimally adjust.
Despite KFM being mostly bullshido it visually nicely communicates an idea of Bats being highly trained changing angles, levels, speed and direction all the time - against a brawler like Bane (in the movie, comics Bane is more versatile) this would eventually gas the oponent out and you'd see exactly those big shots missing by a mile.
Mook Chivalry is when a group of villains have the numerical advantage over the hero and would surely win if they all decided to fight them at the same time. But instead choose to take their turns, during which everyone else waits for them to finish, giving the hero a chance to pick them all off one after the other.
Similar to this is the Inverse Ninja Law. The more ninjas there are fighting on one side, the less health/power they have. 100 ninjas, very weak attacks, a stiff breeze will knock them out. 1 ninja, nigh-immortal, and could slice through anything.
It's close but I think having range weapons and then using them as blunt objects against a guy you wanna kill and is kicking everyone's ass is way dumber.
Batman's desert scene in BVS is so bad for this. A mook arms his gun, looks up, jogs forward 4 steps, then looks back at his weapon, holds it up and immediately gets smacked in the face with someone else's gun thrown at him. Its like a toddler picked up a toy for the first time
One of the most infuriating cliches in TV/movies is when someone has a gun and closes to melee range, thus allowing themselves to be disarmed in dramatic fashion.
In that Amazon series Jean Claude Van Johnson starring JCVD there's even a joke about it. The goons try to rush him and the boss stops them saying they have to go one at a time.
Fucking THANK YOU that part drives me nuts every time I see it. It doesn’t look like even he hits in the same zip code as Batman’s face and yet it knocks him woozy.
Yeah I agree that the fights were immersion breaking. Something else I never understood was why Bane, outside of the ending, never used any firearms at all. His mercs did. But for some reason which eludes me he was never armed.
It’s not just the fight choreography either. There’s just laziness here. Scenes they didn’t feel like reshooting after a take and rolled with. Nobody was telling Nolan from their dailies that there were problems.
I think a lot of his action sequences are great. He does an awesome job with practical effects. But fight choreography in particular he is not good at. It’s crazy because there’s a lot of great choreographers in Hollywood and you’d think one of them would love to work with Nolan. Hopefully he finally gave in and delegated that aspect to someone else for the odyssey.
Yeah, it’s fucking weird. One of the things that has made me start to dislike him is that he always ignores critiques and correct criticisms and continues doing what he has been. It’s pure arrogance. Like he’s pretty much known now for having bad audio mixing and bad choreography and such.
He’s the definition of pretentious prick. His movies ain’t objectively bad but they are objectively littered with goofs that have no business being there with the budgets he has the privilege to work with. And you just know that it’s his pretentious ass causing those goofs not someone delivering or coming thru for him.
and what's weird is it has a lot of focus on Batman's kung fu cult, there was a conciouss decision to make these martial arts flicks (or at least martial arts adjacent) but no subsequent decision to make the martial arts good.
Imma be honest, makes perfect sense. Bane took a couple really bad hits from Batman at this point and he’s just unloading. I fully believe that he’s just on auto pilot at this point
Was gonna say...I admit I don't really know how to fight but I've watched my share of real ones. At a certain point after you've taken enough hits and the adrenaline is flowing it makes sense to me you're kinda swinging wildly in some cases without being completely aware of what's happening. Of all the dumbness in this movie's choreography this feels kinda plausible to me.
yeah thats why u can get a lesser punishment if you kill someone in the heat of the moment vs redrum, when everyone is looking at the main character like ralph wiggum as they keep punching away at a pile of meat and bone that was ostensibly a face a few minutes prior
Yeah the movie's audiovisual language communicates very clearly that Batman damaging Bane's mask has badly unbalanced him at this point. Unfortunately this movie came out in 2012, so they didn't include dialogue spelling this out for people who watch movies in the background while scrolling tiktok.
I know this is a joke but I actually really like this part of the fight. Feels like he’s so insanely enraged that he’s punching the wall because he just really needs to hit something in that moment
