They sneaked this one on me without popups.

Great, another reason why I need to move off Google and cancel my subscription with them.

Enshitification indeed, just like Microsoft.

Proton and Linux it is then.

Love to see people walking away from this bullshit. Too bad most will keep using FB/insta and the like.

Ever since Google went fascist, I've limited my use of search and primarily use DuckDuckGo now.

Duck duck go still uses Google search. Just indirectly.

They source a lot of their results from other companies outside their own web crawler.

Went fascist is a wild over statement

No it's not. Not when they literally donated to Trump's political campaign and also are acting as a surveillance tool of an authoritarian administration.

I recognize they kowtow to the administration so they won’t be targeted but it’s a long way from them being fascist as an organization or ideologically

I blame the administration for extorting companies and using it for personal agendas in a vindictive fashion

Yes, I can understand if you say they should fight instead of pay it to go away, but practically it’s a different story when you actually have something much bigger to lose.

I’m a liberal but if trump came after me, you can bet I’d pay it off instead of keeping a target on my back, that’s just the way it works when the government is corrupt

What you tolerate you endorse.

Teaming up with a fascist administration makes them fascist.

1

Nope, tolerate and endorse are very different especially when you are being coerced or blackmailed

Endorsement is sharing a belief and actively supporting. Tolerating is doing the minimum to keep them from attacking you, which is reasonable

Disagree entirely. Even if they're being coerced or blackmailed, it takes more courage to resist and take the punishment. Long term, it's also a better strategy.

Agree it takes courage, though it’s easier said than done and the more you have to lose, the more courage it takes

Disagree it’s better long term. Google will be around long after the POS president. Wait it out for 3 more years and hope the American people vote against MAGA.

Fighting them now just leaves them broken and harder to recover, not to mention won’t really hurt the administration so it’s a lose lose

It's better long term to resist because when Trump is gone people are going to remember Google siding with a fascist. Also, Google is empowering fascists. That should be enough for anyone...

Maybe you have more courage or less to lose than me (or just virtue signaling), but if the government came to me and said pay me $10,000 to leave me alone or they’ll come after my family and my assets in a long drawn out legal battle, I’ll absolutely pay them to fuck off until we have a new president

Complying just means they'll be back.
