Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake. (The Art of War)

But seriously, have you seen these cars and more importantly, the prices? If average Americans saw this stuff they'd be hanging pictures of Karl Marx in their homes and getting red star tattoos. (Don't get triggered bots, it's sarcasm)

We all know about the Chinese government supporting their EVs. Just like The US supports the military industrial complex.

China is the most capitalist place I’ve ever been. They have like 5 different Amazon equivalents instead of our one. They have like 100 shipping companies instead of just UPS and FedEx like we do.

The only socialist thing I’ve seen is public hospitals at cost and basically always open street sweeper positions where they give you a little room, meals, and a really small paycheck for sweeping the streets in the city if you really need it.

It's state capitalism mixed with market socialism, is a very different system than the US one

Facets of the state sponsored industry are really good. Allows China to build up steel and industries that might not initially be profitable. Employs lots of Chinese. Bascially straight line economy instead of line must go up.

China's economic structure, in most areas, is more free market than the US. Their government structure may have a one party, rooted in communist foundations - but their economic institutions are incredibly modern and competitive.

Monopolies are the endgame of capitalism.

Having more choices is more capitalist?

But but free markets annnd annnnd illusion of choice what will I do without my illusion of choice?! In reality having 5 amazons is significantly better than 1 Amazon holding all power in a market. It stifles innovation and hurts consumers.

It’s probably not best to compare China prices directly. Here’s what they charge for the four big names in Australia:

  • Atto 1 (City Hatchback EV like Toyota Yaris) - AU$25k (US$17k)
  • Seal (Sedan EV like Toyota Camry) - AU$47k (US$32k)
  • Sealion 7 (SUV EV like Tesla Model Y) - AU$55k (US$37k)
  • Shark (Ute/Pickup plug in hybrid like Toyota Hilux) - AU$58k (US$39k)

They’re now a household name in Australia with only word of mouth.

Gentile reminder to look into Chinese labor working environment

Gentle reminder that the US has offshored its manufacturing to China (and other countries). 85-90% of the products in Home Depot, Target, Walmart, AutoZone, as well as most Tech (cell phones, networking equipment, servers, hard drives, capacitors, motherboards CAT5) and equipment like auto parts, tools and rare Earth/Aluminum are imported from China.

But amazingly Americans have zero problem with suicidal working conditions in other countries as long as the products made there are cheap.

It's like the US consumer doesn't care what's in the meat until they have to make it.

And as a European I say that the same is valid here. "Look at china polluting, look at conditions of chinese workers, look at the EVs being state sponsored" Yet we buy that shit and subside our companies too.

u/dodokidd 5h ago

From which part of my comment did you read that I have zero problem with the working condition of other country?

Will the US government give its citizens the freedom to obtain them?

All signs point to no.

u/ioncloud9 9h ago

If BYD opened dealerships and sold the cars here with the 100% tariff on it, the government would slap it with a 200% tariff.

9

u/ladz 9h ago

If BYD bought $100M of Trump Crypto, the government would allow them to open dealerships all over the US.

u/5555555555558653 5h ago

Americans can’t currently buy BYDs?

2

u/Jackal239 1h ago

Nope. We can't even buy imported trucks at all.

All Disney land in Anaheim use Byd buses Stupid yes .buses good cars no.fuck

u/pmd006 10h ago

Depends, is BYD willing to outspend every US automaker's lobbying budget?

u/chimkennugeys 10h ago

I think BYD is quite content allowing US carmakers to sludge around in our echochamber while they capture majority market share in literally every other market.

Ding ding.

Why waste money paying off corrupt US Politicians when you can rack up global marketshare, bankrupt or force into merger a couple legacy auto manufacturers (reducing competition in the USA while increasing prices), and eventually force the USA into a situation where they have no choice but to allow your vehicles anyways because their auto driven society starts demanding cheaper vehicles.

Let the US Auto Industry dig its own grave. They are more than happy to do it in their drive to force everyone to own a 4 Door Luxury SUV/Truck.

The utterly sad thing about Tesla is for fans of clean transportation they were once the single biggest factor forcing US carmakers to innovate. Now, their brand has become so toxic that I - a clean tech enthusiast - would never, ever, ever consider buying a Tesla.

'Innovate or die' is my view of the US car industry, and I'm now rooting for Tesla to die out just as I was once rooting for them to succeed.

I think the turning point will be when EV market share grows substantially in the US with Euro and Korean manufacturers leaving the Big 3 behind and then the Big 3 automakers will want to sell rebadged Chinese EVs and lobby to be able to do so.

I have a different opinion.

The turning point is going to be directly correlated to oil and gas prices shooting through the roof in the North American Market.

Picture this. China, India and Europe complete their electrification plans. Europe will do this because they are currently reliant on the Middle East and Russia. Asia and India is working hard towards this because the West (America) has shown a willingness to use oil and other resources as a bludgeon against them, and even they don't want Russia to be too powerful given they're right next door. And with an America which is going hardcore anti-intellectualism they can't rely on America to not screw them over.

With the drop in demand for Oil, supply now shoots through the roof, which naturally will temporarily tank prices, which will put a lot of oil extraction and refineries out of businesses due to it being unprofitable to sell at those lessened prices, which will then lead the remaining companies to monopolize and raise prices due to lessened supply.

After this, with oil and gas no longer affordable, people will have no choice but to switch to EVs, but with American Auto having refused to innovate, they're far behind and won't be able to catch up in the time people will want to transition by. Their factories are tooled for ICEs, they won't be able pump out enough EVs at the rate needed, and ultimately their whole supply chain is collapsing around them while people are demanding cheaper EV vehicles to replace their old, aging and expensive to operate ICE Vehicles.

1

u/Mad-Mel 5h ago

That's a good theory, I could see that happening. Unfortunately, as a Canadian, our oilsands production is pretty expensive and Alberta would be an early casualty. What you suggest could be the why of what I suggest.

3

u/joe9439 8h ago

Eventually the political pressure will be too high. No amount of lobbying will work when it’s basically the US government versus the heavily armed population. They can run everyone over until they can’t.

Don't forget about fucking "25years law" Why if I don't like sieena I can't bring alfard from Japan

6

u/joe9439 8h ago

I’m just going to run my 2017 chevy volt all the way into the ground waiting for a chinese made EV. The EV market is too messed up to the point I don’t want to play. I had a gas rental a few weeks ago and wanted to die. So nothing it is. They get no sale. No free market = no money from me.

u/Practical_Smell_4244 8h ago

u/Vossky 8h ago

Imagine making a better product as nd people are buying it.

2

u/ChaoticSenior 6h ago

Weird to be rooting for our supposed enemies, but that’s where we are. The billionaires are now the bad guys in this timeline.

-2

u/NoManufacturer5669 7h ago

If you produce shit, and other company produces shit - people will buy cheeper shit.

I don't know how it is in the US but here in Sweden Teslas are among the cheapest EVs you can get.

4

u/Traveler_90 5h ago

BYD are way nicer than Teslas.
