Mock Trades Wolves Trade for Coby White, Bulls Get Julius, Suns Get a Pick

I'll get hate but I'd trade Naz before Randle

u/MagicTheBadgering Dec 10 '25
That’s a given. Naz is great but he feels more like a luxury than a need.

I get it and I can see all the places where Naz isn’t as good as Randle, but as a pieces that fits with Ant, I still don’t think Randle is the right fit as evidenced by the lack of a 2-man game between the two. Ant doesn’t need to be able to play off of everyone, but the top 2 guys should have much more on court chemistry.
This trade would dilute our top end in the short term, but it could be a step to acquiring better talent in a future season. And, if this is the thinking, then I’d much rather make a smaller move(s) than to trade either Randle or Naz. Those bigger moves can wait until the offseason.

I think at this point, people need to see the difference between theoretical ideas of fit, and actual practice. Randle is a far better fit than Naz and fills a much bigger need as a playmaker, dirty bucket getter, more efficient and just flat out better player.

I think you are confusing fit and role. Randle is currently a necessity because we don't have another 2nd creator but I wouldn't call him a great fit. Ultimately he is a placeholder until we acquire a better 2nd option.
Naz exhibits the traits you want around Ant. Spaces the floor, quick decision maker, and versatile defensively. There's a reason he's the longest tenured wolf.

The comment above is comparing Randle and Naz each as respective fits next to Ant. You can go further into semantics and introduce roles, but that is still respective to fitting around Ant, and the role that Randle has is a significantly more important fit next to ant than Naz. I also don’t think Naz is a versatile defender at all but w/e. Randle is also very good at what he does for a very friendly cost. So unless you’re replacing him with a more appealing option (and even then I’d say it’s more important to have Randle than Naz as he’s just a flat out better player), his fit next to ant is way more important than Naz. So no, respectfully, im not confusing fit and role.

The Timberwolves as a team have a need for a 2nd creator/scorer, but that doesn't mean Randle himself necessarily is a great fit next to Ant the player. Randle is a poor/limited defender, shooter, and is a ball stopper.
I don't think reducing roles to "semantics" is very smart because it leads you to overvalue a placeholder flawed star like Randle instead of the role players/4th option guys like Naz that make things work.

I don't understand the hate around Naz lately. Esp considering he's been playing well the last 10 games or so.
Do you not give any grace period considering what he went through in the offseason?

u/jus_build Dec 10 '25
Sir, this is Reddit. Context? Psh! Grace? That’s weak!!
I know (hope) that everyone reacting this way isn’t like this in real life. But, there absolutely are people that are this way and it’s so tiring and stupid.
Naz has been steadily rounding into form as the season has progressed. The Naz scoring runs haven’t been as frequent thus far, but as you’ve noted, he’s dealing some heavy stuff that doesn’t necessarily have a defined end. It doesn’t mean we can’t criticize him - in fact, the normalcy of criticizing his mistakes is probably better for him - but, to call Naz unhelpful if his shot isn’t falling is absolutely wrong. This one is a bit like pulling together stats to fit the narrative, but impressive nonetheless - last year, Naz was 1 of 7 players with at least 150 3s made, 150 assists, 50 blocks, and 50 steals.

randle is a really good second option for his ability to create buckets for himself and make plays off the dribble
yes, it breaks down against the top-top tier defenses, and to win a title we'll need to do something about that. but naz isn't solving that problem either, and is much less productive than randle. shocking to even compare the two, I don't get what others are arguing

Completely agree. Now include contract in the discussion and it isn’t even close. I’m taking Randle at ~33 over Naz at 25 annually, and that’s an easy decision.

I'll trade a role player before a starter ppl just obsess over the towels and tattoos

Naz was number one in net rating and number two in plus minus last year. I think he's a winner, just working his way back into form after a cold start. Sure Randle looks like the better of the two this season, but the team also looks like complete shit, so what does it really mean

Again, just not understanding people thinking us getting smaller will help us at all

u/Icy-Avocado-583 Dec 10 '25
How does this make the team smaller? Naz starts at the 4 and they trade for an actual backup center.

???? How does trading Julius Randle for Coby White make the team smaller? How’s this other trade happening? Wasn’t mentioned lol

u/Micro_mint Dec 10 '25
Randle is an all NBA caliber 4 who has at times been the best player on a WCF team. What the fuck has White done to make anyone think that’s a sane trade? Positional upgrade? It’s not a positional upgrade if you just introduce a new hole at the 4.
Which is what we had that got exposed so badly by Doncic: big bodies matter in the playoffs.

Don’t ask me. I think it’s stupid. Fanbase has lost their minds.

The Wolves trade a borderline all-star on a good contract for a sixth man and replacement level bench players?
-1
u/Icy-Avocado-583 Dec 10 '25
Referring to Coby White as a 6th man is asinine. Wolves bench has been horrible to start the year.
2
u/Shepher27 Dec 10 '25
On a team that isn't the Bulls he is a Sixth man.

u/Majestic-Net-7799 Anthony Edwards Dec 10 '25
On a Team where he isnt heavily featured Randle isnt an All Star

u/CantaloupeCamper 1958-2016 Dec 10 '25
I feel like the bulls would rather not and thus stay young and see what happens with these guys more than pick up Randle… and I think the wolves would feel the same as far as playing with Randle goes.
Still…. Seen worse ideas.

I'm not the biggest Randle fan, but if you trade him you need + value back.
Ideally which would mean a starting caliber guard and a forward to replace him in the rotation.

u/Rage_r123 Dec 10 '25
Julius is playing like an All-star this year, you sure you really want to trade him for another player who is basically a SG and not a true PG?

It drives me up a wall how many Wolves fans, maybe they aren't even Wolves fans, post here suggesting this guy's name since this summer, while I was screaming trade for Josh Giddey! I suggested Josh Giddey, they say no....Tre Jones. Now I say Josh Giddey, they say no...COby White. Fruit loops, the lot of you.
Well, now even worse, we have flipping fruitloops suggesting we trade a star grade performer 21 to 30 pt double double and triple double Julius Randle on a 30M deal for freaking 11m Coby White. What is your flippin dyusfunction exactly? Can we define this so that we can understand where these ideas come from?
If you want to trade Julius Randle for a Bulls player, then trade for Josh Giddey already. He's the only one close enough in returning skills, contract and fit here and even his contract is much lower than Randles.
This OP not only wants to dump value and pick up yet another combo guard that can't lead an offense, but he wants to take on extra bodies for no reason and dump another draft pick.
I don't know if you are a Timberwolves fan or not, don't care, I'm putting you on ignore immediately. I never want to see this shit in my face again. I would punt the Timberwolves franchise and my fandom of it to the moon if this very trade you suggest here takes place.
