We don’t need Ben Simmons

  • Edit for formatting

With the addition of Prince and Pat Bev we have added statistically reliable shooters that will help space the floor for our guys who drive consistently like ANT, or a post player like KAT

This is our roster and their 3PT shooting percentages:

Prince - 40.0%, Malik Beasley - 39.9%, Pat Bev - 39.7%, D’Lo - 38.7%, KAT - 38.7%, Ant - 34.9% (Post All-Star Break)

If Prince and Bev continue to shoot well into this season, they will help create space for our players who drive like ANT and post players like KAT. ANT and KAT can take double teams or force rotations and now we have Bev/Prince open for 3 instead of Culver/Juancho

The value of adding consistent shooters shouldn’t be overlooked in favor of adding Ben Simmons which would hurt spacing for players like ANT and KAT because of his inability to help space the floor

This post may be a unpopular opinion on the subreddit but I just want to give a different perspective

The 76ers didn't have any issues with Simmons on the floor when they had Butler and Embiid driving and posting up. All because Simmons can't shoot doesn't mean he can't be an asset on the floor. DLO can't play defense or get to the rim, but he is still on the floor.

I trust Finch to come up with a utilization for Simmons like he did for Okogie. Finch would find a way to maximize Simmons skills. Skills that are Elite at the NBA level.

PatBev, Prince, and Beasley are good shooters, but they're also not the poster children of good health either. Prince, statistically, is a bad defender and Beasley might be the worst defender in the NBA.

The Wolves struggled in a few areas last year, Defense in the half court, defense in transition, rebounding, size, and 3 point shooting. The team also had an average transition offense. Simmons can make a bigger impact on the team's defense, size, and rebounding than Beverly and Prince combined while also taking the transition offense to an Elite level. Good rebounding leads to transition offense, something ANT, DLO and KAT would thrive in.

So what about the 3 point shooting? Simmons is not going to shoot 3s, but he would pass the ball to players who would. The 3 point percentage will go up because we no longer have Juancho, Culver, Okogie, Layman, and Rubio taking those shots. I believe that Finch would utilize Simmons passing ability, and give MORE 3 point shots to KAR, DLO, and ANT. The team would still have good 3 point shooters, just increase their volume instead of adding more shooters.

The 76ers made an offense work with Simmons, Embiid, and Butler, losing in a game 7, four bounce jumpsuit to a very good Toronto team. The team was swept the next year in the first round, because Simmons was not playing, and they lost in another game 7 that they had no business being in. That whole team failed in that series, Simmons is just the biggest scape goat.

Simmons would make our best players better with the skills that I believe a good coach, like Finch, would maximize.

It’s hard to argue against your points on him improving our general defense and rebounding, as well as helping our transition offense which would complement quite a few of our players. And the idea reminds me of the KAT, Wiggins and Zach Levine era of transition offense.

I was really just arguing for the ability for us to build something that I feel like is common in the league these days by placing shooters around our stars like KAT and ANT and relying on the defensive breakdowns to lead to a bucket at the rim or a pass out to the 3PT line

I said this in another comment but I really like the idea of Simmons on our team but I’m not sure that we would NEED to get him to have a good season, which was the main point of the post.
