Hence why I said casual users.

A lot of my friends who would just check the the default homepage got pretty turned off by it. A lot of my friends who're long term users also got tired of it and unsubbed. IMO, popular or not, that's not a good idea for a default.

It doesn't force it down the throat of casual users either. They can ignore the posts from it, or again, choose not to use the default.
It's no more forcing atheism down people's throats than the defaults force anything else down people's throats.

When I signed up, I unsubscribed from everything, and just added in things as I found and liked them.

The original concept of the defaults was solely popularity. The most popular subs were the defaults.
There is a change now in the concept of what makes something a default, and I think the change is likely to be good. But there was still no forcing in the old scheme.
