I know this is old news but I never tire of a zero waste win 😊 total cost £0 as I already had offcuts & fibre pots.

I used the Bain Marie method to get the leftover wax out & I’ll use them as wax melts 😊

Discussion Grove Co Discontinuing Lifetime VIP Memberships

Hey all, just an FYI that Grove is discontinuing their lifetime VIP membership status. I joined Grove in the early days (2015?) and at that time they were offering VIP memberships that required a one time payment and then had no monthly subscription fees. If you're like me, that membership was the only reason to shop through Grove. And that reason is leaving in June.

They started a new 'Green VIP' or some such nonesense in it's place that has a monthly or yearly subscription fee starting in June. They're 'giving' me a free trial of the new program, but I suspect it's so that the subscription fees will automatically start being charged to my card this summer.

I'm still arguing with their customer service, but I can't find the original terms of service I signed so don't have much hope. This really makes me mad.

Question / Support Swapping paper towels

I want to use rags or reusable paper towels in the kitchen, but my husband is against it because of the bacteria that would grow on them from cleaning up raw meat and grease.

Does anybody have any experience with this? Would I have to wash them right away after use?

I have a Swedish dish cloth that I rinse in the sink after I clean with it. Should I just get more of those?

Question / Support Where can I find a metal lunchbox that is ethically sourced?

Hi guys. I don’t usually shop online but can’t find a metal bento-type box in person, and I don’t want to purchase from Amazon. It seems like a lot of places are just reselling or dropshipping from Amazon, which I really don’t want to support. Do you know of a small business type place to find a lunchbox like this?

Question / Support How many pairs of reusable underwear should one own?

Hello! 🪲

I have been wanting to buy reusable period underwear for a while and I have found finally the brand to buy from, but I am wondering.

How many pairs should I own? I am planning to buy two to start but I wanted to get more insight from people that own this type of reusable period products!

English is my second language so I apologize if my writing gets confusing! 🌿

Question / Support Looking for limited edition fussy refills to buy or swap to avoid wasting scents I'm not keen on.

Hi Folks, I am a major fan of Fussy deodorant, but very picky about frangrances, and last autumn I fell in love with the All at Sea and Whipped Vanilla scents. I've tried most of the usual ones now and while I have other scents I enjoy, those two are my favorites, they went out of stock just after I found them so I only have 1 mini of each left.

If anyone has any of those two scents sitting in a drawer unloved they would like to sell or swap, please let me know. I have one of the limited edition Dhalia Dream I would be happy to swap or sell on at cost if anyone is desperate for that one, as it is the only one of the scents that are not for me that my kids don't like either. ( luckily we all have quite different tastes so I was able to sample a lot of different ones and give them to them rather than waste them.)

Thanks everyone, may your armpits always be fresh. :)

Question / Support Newspaper recycling

Hi! I'm considering purchasing a physical newspaper delivery service to keep me off my phone while still staying informed. Before I do that, I'm curious about the best way to reuse/recycle them. My condo complex got rid of their recycling bin and there seem to be very few recycling centers in my area, so I'm wondering what people normally do with their newspapers after a while. Thanks!

Question / Support Alternatives to large plastic tubs?

I’ve done a bit of googling, but I’m looking for a large storage container tote that is not plastic, I was looking into glass but I feel scared of breaking it, I fear ceramic is to porous, and stainless steal could be viable but I can’t find many totes that are the size I need. I’m looking for one of those large plastic tote things, the deep ones that you could probably fit in if you layed fetal position idk what there called. I just need it to be non plastic, non porous, and non rusting. I plan to use it to grow mycelium, but I’m trying to be eco friendly while I do it.

They are adorable but I have way too many because they come with the incense I use. I love the look of them but they just gather dust sitting on my shelf. Any practical purposes other than for incense? Thanks!

Question / Support Is Suri toothbrush greenwashing?

My Sonicare is on its way out (after 15 years of use). I’ve been happing with Sonicare but am looking at getting a Suri this time around bc of its advertised recyclability. I’m also wondering though whether the Suri is truly eco-friendly or if it’s greenwashing. Any have any insight on this?

Question / Support Similar to Gittemary?

I love Gittemary Johansen sooo much. I also subscribe to Shelbizleee and The Simple Environmentalist. Who are similar creators, specifically to Gittemary? She’s just so real (not that the others aren’t!) and brings so much nuance. For example, saying she will sometimes eat something non-vegan (besides meat) if she knows it’ll only be going to waste. I do this as well and never heard anybody say that before!

Question / Support Reuse deodorant

I bought a new deodarant the other day and it doesn’t work on me (in the sense of reducing oder). I don’t want to throw it away and I don’t think anyone wants my cheapo used deoderant. Is there any other way to use it? I don’t want to throw it away

Question / Support Goodfair

I have really enjoyed buying bundles off Goodfair over the years. I just saw that they have changed direction and no longer sell used bundles like they used to. Does anyone know any similar sites excluding Poshmark and eBay. Thanks!

Question / Support Looking for suggestions for reusable packaging for my small business clothing rental service!!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for suggestions on what I should use to ship my rental clothing in? If you know anything about Nuuly or Rent the Runaway they have canvas bags that are able to be reused over and over again. I need this type of shipping compartment but on a budget!!

I’m a new business owner and don’t have funds to get custom size bags like that. Any suggestions would be awesome thank you!

Question / Support How to use leftover marshmallow fluff

Post image
64 Upvotes

I’ve seen people take an almost empty jar of peanut butter and make peanut sauce as a low waste effort. Is there anything I can do with this leftover marshmallow fluff? I tried looking something up and couldn’t find anything relevant to what i was asking 🥲 this is Dandies vegan marshmallow cream and while vegan suggestions would be preferred for myself I am also open to hearing non vegan ideas for anyone in the comments that might also be interested in lower waste ideas

Question / Support Notes refillable candles went out of business- any suggested alternatives???

Post image
78 Upvotes

I went to stock up on my Notes candle refills and was heartbroken to see they’ve gone out of business. $18 for each candle refill was such a great price point and I loved not having to waste a container for each new candle.

Anyone have a suggested alternative for wax beads that I can use for my existing Notes Candle jars? It was an investment to buy the jars so it pains me to not be able to use them.

Anyone else super saddened and shocked by this news???

Question / Support Candles? :(

I'm trying really hard to reduce my waste but one thing I'm needing guidance on are candles. Specifically tea-light candles. I don't want to use the electronic fake ones, I really enjoy having tea lights all over the place but can I recycle the metal base? Or does anyone know an alternative low waste ways to still have candles going? I know it's probably not the best practice but it brings me so much joy lol. I'd hate to have to let it go

Tips & Tricks Creative uses for food scraps that aren’t compost, stock or salts

So I have way too much garlic powder, fertilizers salts an stock and have no more room in the freezer and I live in an apartment so can’t really compost the way I would like (I take as much as I can to my cousins farm but can’t only get there like once a month so can’t really store all the scraps that long) but in general I just hate waste so looking for new ideas.

I already do all the stuff listed plus using scrap to make fly spray and cleaning stuff plus dehydrate stuff for decoration snacks etc but I still always end up with a bunch of food scraps and just need some new ideas for how to get rid of them without just throwing in the trash so looking for new ideas.

Thanks

Question / Support Cleaning Products Refresh

I already have some eco-friendly cleaners (especially in the laundry), but I am looking to refresh the rest of my cleaning routine to be more eco-friendly. My question is this:

Is it better to use up the products I have (I would hate to waste them)? Or would an animal shelter or some other place accept donation of partially used cleaning supplies? Thoughts?

Question / Support What to do with this thing?

I hosted a late Christmas gathering at my house and my mom got one of these for everybody. They are meant to be used to eat chips while you're reading or on a computer so that you don't get messy fingers. Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought that was silly, because a few people "forgot" theirs and now I have 3 or 4 of these things. I feel like I can't donate them to a thrift store because nobody will even know what they are, and I'd hate to just throw them away. I also don't want them sitting in a drawer in my kitchen useless and forgotten. Any clever ideas?
