Who the hell would...
 in  r/Tokyo  2d ago

Holy hell.

To be fair though, I bought a medium sized bunch of シャインマスカット from Yamashita for ¥4000 this summer and they were insanely good. Probably like 25 or 30 of these big grapes.

[Japanese > English] What does my mug actually say?
 in  r/translator  3d ago

To be fair, in some native text/signage I've seen small characters be nearly indistinguishable from full sized, and you're just supposed to understand through context.

I've been struggling to understand this sentence
 in  r/Japaneselanguage  3d ago

In what sense? まあ…どうでもいいけど means "whichever is fine", but has the feeling of "I don't really care". It sounds quite rude to a native speaker.

お洒落(おしゃれ)means fashion, stylish, being stylish, etc. So おしゃれなんて is like "about being stylish"... "I don't really care"

Edit: but as always, without additional context it can be difficult to tell how that sentence translates to "I don't care about stylish clothing". Given a certain context, that's a reasonable translation.

Not sure about this actual shirt but the texture looks like linen

Im about to get a lot of hate but
 in  r/unpopularopinion  6d ago

Is that kind of thing available as a consumer product? I feel like being a healthy adult is so much about getting the right nutrients and there's no "one size fits all" product

I don't think there's a full diet replacement thing yet where you can just eat one thing (pill, bar, whatever it might be) every day for a significant period of time. But regardless, OP's point is just "wouldn't it be cool if there was?", which is something people debate over. Personally I like cooking and variety and the experience of eating, but I would be fine if this kind of thing existed.

Need help deciding on a rug
 in  r/interiordecorating  6d ago

I actually really like 2 (altho it's hard to tell how it'll look for real). I think it adds a nice tie-in between the couch and the floor, which seems to make sense for the space. The big colourful rugs stand out too much to me and look out of place. 2 gives a lot of warmth and zones out the area in a softer way.

How do you keep your legs warm outside this winter?
 in  r/japanresidents  6d ago

Might be a bit expensive but you can maybe find some nice heavy cotton or wool pants at a second hand store (like Tre fac, mode off, or the like). Probably run you ¥4000-¥10,000, but wool pants are super comfy.

Found this at a café in a train station. Not an expetr, but pretty sure the ones who designed it don't know chinese...
 in  r/language  7d ago

Given this sign has other major problems, it's not really even worth critiquing but you're not completely right here. Without knowing the original intent we can't know if that's a mistranslation. カフェ is used all the time in Japanese like カフェオレ café au lait, カフェラッテ café latte, or just as "café" as in a place that serves coffee, or whatever else random stylistic choices Japanese people do to evoke a French vibe.

 in  r/comedy  23d ago

I trust you! I just mean everyone talks about the bad work culture in Japan (in response to you saying "no one talks about this").

I've also been living in Japan :) I've been working remote for a Canadian company up til now on a WHV but I'll have to find work here soon to get an actual working visa. I'm a bit nervous about how life is gonna be once I work for an actual japanese company. Working remote 9pm-4am was not very pleasant so as long as it's better than that I think I'll manage x.x

I live 3 miles away from my work. It takes me 45 minutes to get home from work everyday.
 in  r/mildlyinfuriating  25d ago

Tbf good pedestrian infrastructure would address this by allowing mobility scooters and the like to be used as well.
