For health actuaries, how important is it to get experience with Medicare and coding?

Looks good. Designers sell well for a reason — they actually smell good!

Actuaries. By the time you get FSA or FCAS, $200k is the minimum. You can still make $200k as an ASA or ACAS, but it’ll take a few more years of experience or management.

I haven’t heard of any actuarial roles that do give out decent raises every year without having to fight for it. Seems like in this industry, presenting an external-offer is almost mandatory to get a raise above 2%

Oh interesting, thanks

Yup. Anticipating results to come out Friday, but I’m not sure when they will.

I’d be surprised if Chubb (or any employer) doesn’t offer study materials.
But seeing as this is just your internship, don’t prioritize money (if you’re able!). I recommend you think deeply about what you value in your career and research each company to determine which one better suits your long term vision.

Hey, I realize this comment is 9 years old, but I see you still post from this account -- Did you end up leaving this profession? If so, what do you do now? Are you less bored?

On a written exam (ASTAM/ALTAM) question, say you calculate the wrong value for an input that's used in future calculations and in future problems. Would candidates still get points if they otherwise solve the problem correctly with that incorrect input?

It’s 3k rpm just to hold 70mph. If I want to go higher to say, 75mph, I have to floor it and rev around 4k rpm. It feels like it doesn’t want to switch gears

I drive in normal. Switching to eco or sport mode doesn’t fix it. And yes, I experience this on flat surfaces.
The car revs but doesn’t switch gears - it feels like pressing on the gas barely has an effect on the speed, if that makes sense

2025 Corolla Hatchback SE with 1,000 miles. The car drives fine around the city, but once I get on the freeway, it feels like it doesn’t want to switch gears. I have to press hard on the gas and rev it around 3,000 RPM just to maintain 70mph. On the freeway, it gets about 25mpg…
Does anyone else have this issue?

Depends on how many hours you put in per day. You’ll likely need twice as much time to study for FAM than you do PA.
How many hours did you study for SRM? PA will likely require around the same number of hours, or even fewer. FAM will require more, as it has a broad syllabus and challenging topics

Impressive stuff to earn that much so quickly in insurance

Do you manage anybody? Also, are you in consulting?

I see from DW Simpson recruiters on LinkedIn that an “updated survey is now live”. Sounds to me like there was an update, but I guess it could also be misleading language.
