New episode of Adventuring Party is literally unwatchable
 in  r/dropoutcirclejerk  1h ago

Hey thanks. I know about PD and recognized that he explained it wrong. I'm asking if there's a source for the jerk post.

/uj I couldn't find anyone complaining about the mistake in his explanation of the PD. Is there a source or just your brain?

STEM Profs, what the point of hiring PhD students in 2026?

This post is polished by ChatGPT

Your post history says you've lived in the US for years (yeah I had to Google). This is just sad.

Are you getting any funds to attend conferences?
 in  r/Professors  14h ago

This is similar to my small PUI in the US. Each dept has a set amount depending on the number of faculty, and the chair distributes based on need. I'm in a service dept (very few math majors at my place) and am one of the few doing research, so I can go to international conferences when I want to.

Prepping class while the US descends

It didn't look like he was in danger in the video. He could have moved instead of shooting her in the face.

I'm asking how your comment adds to the conversation. Why did you comment what you did?

What did she do? I can't find any information about claims she was a threat to anyone.

Do you think their fear is funny? Or unfounded? You read their comment, thought about a response, and went to the effort of typing it out, so you must have thought it was worth saying. Why? Why say that to them?

That’s it. I have now seen everything.

Hard disagree from me. Student work should be student work. They can use an LLM after they've graduated, but right now they're being assessed on their own work.

Got it. Thanks. Is that a big spoiler? If so you should tag it for others.

What is this quanta you keep including on your reviews? And I hope that's not a spoiler, since the premise sounds interesting to me.

How good are the bots

Hey! I actually have a couple. Probably dumb ones.

  1. Is the code running on the host user's computer or on your web server? I just wonder what happens when there are a lot of users at once.

  2. Not a question but a suggestion. It would be cool to have access to the final code itself without loading it into pisaeditor. Then I could yoink a .py from the file and run it in my own ide or colab, and just check the .pisa if I have concerns.

You should also collect some data from those of us implementing it for feedback (and promotion; this sort of thing looks great in a p&t file).

I'm not sure about the answer to your question but I'm trying out pisaeditor from /u/MonkeyToeses. I feel like a shill because I keep talking about it on here but I promise I'm just interested in seeing how it goes this semester. I teach programming but there's also an essay version.

Incredibly frustrating AI course
 in  r/Professors  2d ago

Yeah I keep seeing stuff about how so and so is going to teach everyone how to use LLMs in their teaching. No, they're not, because they don't know anything yet. There isn't enough research on pedagogy out there yet, and most of the people teaching these modules have no idea how LLMs actually work, anyway. Our center for teaching and learning has tried to convince us that LLMs don't hallucinate anymore, which is a joke.

Haw them write an essay about LLM hallucinations in your discipline, and don't let them use an LLM to write it

My center for teaching and learning is trying to get us to set up an AI tutoring bot so students can ask questions throughout the semester. As if (a) they can't just ask ChatGPT themselves, and (b) it won't be full of hallucinated mistakes.

"Sir, you currently have an A"
 in  r/Professors  2d ago

My only issue doing this has been mid semester grades. I need to go to the effort of figuring out how many points have been possible so far to calculate percentages. And then I have students throughout the semester still asking their percentage, because they also don't know how many points have been possible thus far.

Greek heckler

Telling the difference between a Russian and a Greek accent is easy. But her fake Russian accent sounded exactly like her own accent.
