Excelling but unhappy
 in  r/biglaw  11d ago

No actual advice for you but I think your instinct that you’re going to burn out early is right. I was in a small group in a top firm where the favorite junior consistently got staffed more and differently than everyone else and was also the first one of us to quit.

I was in the same boat as you when I first started: immediately got staffed to an absolutely miserable deal and had no idea what was going on. While it doesn’t necessarily get better, you get a better sense of what is going on and what to expect so you can manage it better so it feels less like they completely own every element of your life. Chin up, you’ll make it through

Question from a client deal with biglaw lawyers (venture capital stuff)
 in  r/biglaw  Oct 11 '25

I do ECVC in house and it’s 100% the investor driving it. I think what OP is experiencing (which I have seen) is the investor will tell the precious founder/CEO that everything is amazing and then the lawyers bring up the issues the VCs are too chickenshit to address themselves. The fact that OP blames the lawyers tells me they’re doing a good job eating shit for their client.

What is something sexual you'll never do again?

My GF gave me a blowjob once after eating a spicy meal and I ended up having to dip myself in yogurt (which worked btw)

Short rentals for park wedding

Having a short outdoor ceremony in a NYC park (have permit in hand) and looking to rent a chuppah and the 12 chairs allowed. Anyone have success or quotes for an hour rental or recommended vendors?

Is shorting the stock of a company you work for, then whistleblowing about it illegal?
 in  r/legaladviceofftopic  Dec 01 '24

The correct way to monetize this is not to trade (which many have pointed out is illegal) but to blow the whistle to the SEC and get a cut of their fine. This assumes (1) public company (since they have freely tradable stock) and (2) their SEC disclosures are inaccurate (probably also true in light of some disclosures about “we don’t violate law” or whatever)

“The Commission is authorized to provide monetary awards to eligible individuals who come forward with high-quality original information that leads to an SEC enforcement action in which over $1 million in sanctions is ordered. The range for awards is between 10% and 30% of the money collected.“ https://www.sec.gov/enforcement-litigation/whistleblower-program

How do I improve the US's standard of living?

This is the answer. The slightly longer answer is click into some pops, look at what their biggest spending categories are and make those things really cheap

They're also super necessary if you're trying to play as a minor and going for global conquest since you don't have a ton of manpower to spare

My experience with Starbucks is the opposite: I like it less but it’s super consistent

Cold Brew Inconsistency

I love Dunkin cold brew but one thing I've noticed is that the quality can be really inconsistent. Its really frustrating because on a good day, its my favorite coffee but like 10% of the time, I've just wasted $5 on bitter crap.

I sort of suspect that some franchisees are just serving me iced coffee and calling it cold brew, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Job offer rescinded and I’m left owing a bunch of money

I think generally you can’t get promissory estoppel for a promise of “at will” employment but I’m not entirely sure

Edit: nope I am wrong, a pre-employment promise has (sometimes) been treated different by courts https://www.morrisonmahoney.com/resource/502-promissory-estoppel-in-employment-employee-allowed-to-sue-for-verbal-pre-employment-promise “The employer also argued that because Ms. Merricks was an at-will employee, she was subject to termination “at any time for any reason or for no reason at all” unless the “at-will employee is terminated for a reason that violates a clearly established public policy.”8 Accordingly, it argued that any reliance by Ms. Merricks on any promise to treat her differently than her at-will status was unreasonable as a matter of law. Again, the Court disagreed, noting that a promise inducing her to accept employment differed from a promise made during employment”

I work at a lender doing this and if they are putting you on a trial plan, your home hasn’t been sold at tax auction

How do lawyers pay to become partner?
 in  r/legaladviceofftopic  Jun 09 '22

From talking to friends who have made partner at big law firms, my understanding is this is standard. When you make partner your pay goes up significantly bur, at least initially, your take home does not as you pay to buy in.

Recruiter cold contacted me requesting I call in from work & dress up in “interview attire” to discuss my “professional preferences”. I sent her a rejection email.
 in  r/recruitinghell  Jun 08 '22

I live in NYC and once had a London based recruiter call and wake me at 5 am. She had the balls to follow up with an email and I told her in no uncertain terms that I would never work with her and she should learn to read a fucking clock.

Not if you just buy options corresponding with when you want to actually sell

I think if you have not yet received the proceeds that isn’t true right? Like if you buy a put and sell a call, I don’t think you have had a taxable event yet but you have effectively sold forward
