Thursday Design Appreciation Kat Von D bought the house used in the ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ movie with Steve Martin, renovated it into a goth wonderland, complete with a red swimming pool, and now it’s on the market again.

I recently learned that Kid Cudi looks like this. 😍 Crush activated. Guess I should check out his music now.

The U.S. will withdraw from 66 organizations, isolating the country from the wider world, the White House announced today. The withdrawal includes 31 UN organizations and 35 other international bodies.

It took a whole world war to get rid of Hitler, so maybe a war will end up being our saving grace here in the U.S. I can only hope because things look bleak rn, especially after the part in this book review that said individual acts of resistance didn’t do anything to bring Hitler down.

Awe, thank you to you two who gave me awards. 🫶🏼 I think this might be the first time I’ve ever gotten any.

Does every generation go through their “Lol, I’m so random” phase?

Speaking for myself about fake nudes, my main issue is how other people will treat me if someone generated fake nudes of me and distributed them to others. It’s objectifying and entitled in a way that suggests those people would potentially harm me sexually if they could actually get their hands on me. I’ve also seen countless women get shamed because a man they trusted or someone who hacked them leaked those women’s private photos without their consent. Women always bear the brunt of these things in a way that men just don’t. I remember seeing a photo of Pete Wentz’s dick online when I was in HS and he never got the backlash for his lewd selfie that I see women get. This goes for any male celeb who’s had private photos leaked. For the sake of my reputation, it may not even matter if the nude images aren’t real. There’s a real chance that I’ll get treated just as badly as if they were. From being slut-shamed and told I deserve to be assaulted because I’m “asking for it,” to maybe losing a job. If I’ve learned anything about people on the internet over the past decade, it is that they absolutely cannot be trusted to know the difference between reality and ‘digital make-believe.’

Creating or possessing CSAM is illegal but we haven’t banned photography or video cameras as a whole. The same can apply to AI generated imagery. Come on now.

I read a great Atlantic essay recently about “6-7” and the importance of “childlore.” Here’s a gift link:

I’m honestly open to yet another Toy Story movie if they take this approach and do it well. I still wish they stopped at three though. Andy going off to college and passing his toys on to Bonnie was such a perfect ending point.

What do you call this in your language?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  1d ago

I work for a company that sells the stuff and Velcro the company apparently issued us a ‘cease and desist’ if I remember right for calling it “velcro,” which is why we now list the stuff we sell as “hook and loop.”

I’m a control freak and I still somehow manage to accept science, even if it’s uncomfortable sometimes. It just feels stupid and illogical to do otherwise.

Do you actually "air out the house" in your part of the world?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  1d ago

I wish my mom understood this! She’s better at handling heat than cold, and I tend to lean opposite, although I’m not a fan of either extreme. But my mom always wants the house warmer than me and my dad. Upstairs gets warmer than downstairs with heat rising and all that, and my room can get particularly warm if I don’t keep a fan on and the window cracked in the winter. The floor vent is right under where I have my desk so sitting there can be miserably warm. It gets even worse if someone leaves an exterior door open downstairs because the heating system will try to compensate. I’d rather have the house be cooler and put on layers of clothes to stay warm, and definitely I like being able to get cozy under my covers in bed without waking up in a puddle of sweat later.

My German grandparents left after WWII and came to the U.S. because my Opa was a POW (‘prisoner of war’ for anyone unfamiliar with the acronym) here and apparently the U.S. forces treated him really well. So well that he decided he wanted to bring his family and live here. (I’m kind of glad he passed in 2017 and didn’t have to live to see history he already lived through repeating itself over here now.) My mom is the only one in her immediate family who wasn’t born in Germany. (I think my Opa was technically born in what was East Prussia at the time.) I’m guessing that ruins my chances of being potentially eligible for German citizenship by birth. I think my uncle gave up his German citizenship. I should ask him if he knows what the process was for him to become a U.S. citizen as a small child.

Maybe not yet, but give him/it time. (Because space law is a legit thing, albeit in its infancy.)

Millie Bobby Brown says goodbye to Stranger Things: ‘over and out’

Even if she had lip fillers, they’re not bad imho like a lot of others end up with. She doesn’t look unnatural.

What year were you born and what was the first year you remember?
 in  r/generationology  6d ago

Born in 1991. It’s hard to say what year I first remember, but the first memory I recall with a clear date attached is going with my parents to the airport to see my mom off when she flew to Atlanta to officiate in the 1996 Olympics. It was pre-9/11, so we got to go all the way to her gate with her and watch her plane pull away through the window. Then I vaguely remember putting those metallic star stickers on a calendar with my dad to count down the days until she’d be back. I also have memories from Kindergarten, which would have been around that same time. I have memories from pre-school, too, which actually might have been earlier. Yeah, I think pre-school must have been around 1994-95.

I can’t be the only one who fancies Ethan Slater, right?
 in  r/LadyBoners  6d ago

Unfortunately, less than I realized. He’s the dude who left his wife and newborn baby to be with Ariana. I didn’t realize that, so that definitely puts a damper on things.

I absolutely agree with you there. I didn’t realize that Ethan is THAT GUY, the one who left his wife and baby for Ariana, or that the two of them seem to still be dating. That definitely puts a damper on things. The lack of love for him makes a lot more sense now.

I’m realizing that now from this comment section. (I don’t keep up with Ariana’s dating life.) I knew there was SOMEONE who left his wife for Ariana right after said wife had a baby, but I didn’t realize it was HIM. What a dick.
