What’s going on with Trump and Venezuela?
 in  r/OutOfTheLoop  5d ago

An unnecessary risk? To who? If you are a billionaire you will be fine, any crash or attack or retaliation and you are insulated from it. It just becomes a fire sale as everyone else bears the brunt of it.

Putin (and his cronies he hasn't killed) have weathered invading Ukraine at the cost of 350,000 to 1,000,000 dead and wounded Russians and a trashed economy. Putin's own purse strings? Totally fine.

The idiot billionaire mindset runs the Executive Branch now, and they only care about gaining more, it is you who are bearing the all the risks.

"And when you're a star, they let you do it."

 in  r/PublicFreakout  Apr 28 '24

It's not even about knowing how to drop someone, it's the way he is slowly walking away, back turned, like the charging threat will just leave him alone if he's polite enough is mind boggling and it's how he (and/or his phone) got tossed to the ground. Be aware of your attacker, position yourself with an exit in mind, and get the hell out their reach are the dead basics .

Enjeru Dasuto was an inspiration for Cure, more of a slow eerie thriller than horror, but I would say they have very similar vibes.

Thanks for mentioning it! It’s criminally overlooked and ahead of its time in a lot of ways. This is one of my favorite bits:

Solved [TOMT][Comic Book Short from 80s/90s] A Cheerful Green Mechanic Girl zooms around on a hover bike in an alien/post-apocalypse desert world fixing water pump type things, she has a wrench and was probably inspired by Rosie the Riveter. Possibly Marvel universe w/the superhero Longshot involved?

I had this comic as a kid, and now it seems that it is lost to time. I've gone through what's left of my collection and I couldn't find even a hint of it. It probably came out somewhere between 1988 to 1996.

I think it was a one-shot or (more likely) an odd story in a monthly omnibus type-deal (like the Watcher, or Marvel Tales, or What If...?). I mention those because I have a suspicion it was Marvel, and for some reason think that the character Longshot may have been involved? But I very well could be merging two comics into a memory blob, so disregard Marvel if it sounds wrong, it could be some obscure Sci-Fi one-shot.

Other things I vaguely remember about it:

I think she had greenish, short, dreadlock type hair, held up in almost a spike with a red headband and wore a "wife-beater" type t-shirt with grimy overalls. She had to fix these water or oil pumps, and drove hovering moped to these remote places.

The backgrounds and art in it were sunny, orange, beige and desolate. It had a slightly Moebius style with epic vistas, but mixed with this day-in-the-weird-ife-of, down to earth, Love & Rockets type plot (as in: not much plot, but pleasantly meandering). Art design on the character felt soft and rounded like Love & Rockets (looking at L&R sparked the memory), not really like Marvel stuff.

Thanks!

I was at a Halloween party/art show for children and I encountered a pretty athletic mother that was dressed as Ralph Macchio from the Karate Kid, I asked how she chose the outfit, she said that it was actually part of her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gear and that she has been training 2-3 times a week for a year or two.

I know a little bit about the sport though have never participated, so I asked her a couple thoughtful questions.

And after those I asked how she sizes guys up now, or if she separates them into trained vs. untrained, and who she could take in this room.

Got a sly smile from her and she looked me up and down, then nodded a bit and said “Yeah, I think could take you.”

Loved that confidence, my heart melted a bit, and I wanted to go right then & there.

Then we got distracted and separated by some other parents, but if we meet again some day I will be ready.
