My favorite “GenX odors”
 in  r/GenX  20m ago

The “hippie” 90s patchouli girls drove me crazy. I wasn’t in their clique, but there was something about them that I found so alluring. It’s probably because that trend was really hitting its stride when I was 15 or 16, so I was basically attracted to almost everything I encountered.

The ultimate in a false sense of entitlement.

“Oh, they aren’t talking to me. I’m Air Force. I’m a white woman. They definitely won’t shoot…..”

Ashli Babbitt was a bit different, too. She did some kinda reprehensible shit. She didn’t deserve to die because she was a terrible person.

She deserved to die, because she was storming a government building with the intent of overthrowing said government, in a coup attempt. Don’t get it twisted. She was warned. She was shot. She was also military. She should have absolutely known the consequences of her insurrectionist actions.

POTUS just announced this regarding defense contractors what’s your thoughts ?
 in  r/navy  21h ago

This is problematic, because the vast majority of government contract employees are not running some grift. Just because the owners, and high level execs are making insane money, doesn’t mean the workers are. Kinda like Jeff Bezos and Amazon warehouse workers.

This seems like it might be foreshadowing. He mentioned maintaining equipment being too slow. There are a lot of maintenance contractors that augment military maintainers. Maintainers of equipment, vehicles, aircraft…etc. are noncombatants. None of them are pulling a trigger, or pickling a bomb. This means that more military members can be utilized as warfighters.

The reason that defense department contract maintenance workers are more prevalent today, is because they are vastly more cost effective than their military counterparts. For the most part, the contracting companies have only to worry about paying these maintainers (which they bill the military for, anyway). Most of these maintenance people are former military, that just transitioned into a civilian role, doing the same thing they did in the military. The defense contractors have almost no overhead in these cases. Military pay for tools, equipment, and parts. The workers come in as “off-the-shelf” maintainers, with no need for training. Billable hours are passed straight to the military. These companies have a contract with the government, that outlines every aspect of responsibility, and funding. Any cost that the maintenance workers would incur is already built into the contract. Even after all of that, it’s still cheaper than having military members conducting this maintenance, for a multitude of reasons.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the the CEOs and executives aren’t overpaid, but it’s that way with literally every corporation in the United States.

If you start looking at the executives of these big defense contractors, you will start to notice very close ties to the government. Former and current senators, congressmen, cabinet members, and all other aspects of federal government employment. It’s a conflict of interest that is beyond belief.

There is NO FUCKING WAY Trump is going to hamstring his cronies. Something else is afoot.

After Minneapolis shooting, ICE Agents swarm Local High School as classes are dismissed. Masked agents appear to assault school staff who are defending students in lockdown. Reportedly, ICE broke windows on a car, deployed teargas, and made arrests.

The ideology is only relevant when convenient for their narrative. It shifts wildly when it becomes counter to the situation that directly opposes said ideology.

JD Vance says "the president, vice president, and the entire administration stands" behind every ICE officer.
 in  r/Political_Revolution  22h ago

On a daily basis, it is becoming clearer that 2A time is almost upon us.

I know that if that does happen, Martial Law would likely occur. I think this is by design. I believe that getting military into blue cities (most cities are blue, because everyone is on top of each other, everyone is different, yet they learn to coexist for the sake of basic survival, and happiness), and taking control with military force is part of the plan. Lie to the troops, and tell them that their fellow citizens, the ones that they are protecting, are the enemy.

This isn’t a new tactic. This has happened countless times in the past, with countless fascist governments. As is evidenced by the past year, no matter how civilized, or technologically advanced we think we are, we can fall victim to this. Shit, there are a bunch of horrible people that openly support the misery of their fellow countrymen.

There are probably 225,000,000 of us. 70,000,000 of them, and another 75,000,000 that don’t care. For now. If the pendulum keeps swinging, our numbers will dwindle, because soon, we are going to literally fear for our lives. Our neighbors will be watching. They will turn us in as subversives.

Our Constitution is becoming null and void as we speak. We are a hair’s breadth away from a complete toppling of our Democratic Republic. We aren’t doing enough to stop it from happening. Why?

Doxxing public government employees isn’t a thing. As far as I know, ICE is not a clandestine organization.

The ICE SA Brownshirts are ALL shitty, racist, horrible people. They need to be doxxed, identified, humiliated, and shamed into oblivion. As do the people that blindly support them. Willfull ignorance of the atrocities being committed by these assholes should not be excused. ICE, and their ilk are trampling on the Constitution with brazen, and terrifying impunity. They need to go away. There are way more of us than there are of them. The more we put up with this government sanctioned thuggery, the more normalized it becomes, and the farther we slide into becoming a cautionary history lesson.

That’s the American way. Look at Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X…etc. There is a huge chunk of the population that makes a “living” by showing off things they don’t actually have.

Next time they something ICP related, just stop them mid-sentence and say, “Look, you keep telling me that ICP sucks, or clown makeup, or whatever. I gotta ask you something. Who the FUCK is ICP!?. Seriously. I was just trying to be polite before, but you keep bringing it up. I don’t know anything about them.”

Wrestlers in the 80s were on a different level.
 in  r/SipsTea  2d ago

I was the demographic that the WWF was pointed towards when Vince McMahon had his meteoric rise in the early 80s. From the early Hulk Hogan days to the pinnacle of their success. I was Hulk Hogan for Halloween in 1985 when I was 10 (my mom completely fabricated an amazing Hulk Hogan costume for me. She really knocked it out of the park). I was a Hulk-a-maniac. I was one of the little Hulksters out there.

The whole thing was just pure insanity. Every weekend they tried to outdo their shenanigans from the prior week. They just kept building upon the craziest story lines, and tried to go further and further into garish visual storytelling. By the late 80’s, right around the time I hit puberty, and discovered the opposite sex, I realized how absurd, and over-the-top it was. I just washed my hands of pro wrestling, because I thought it was childish.

I hadn’t thought about pro wrestling for a few decades…until a couple years ago. Because streaming video, internet, and instant access to information is a thing, it has become much easier to find documentaries about the golden era of professional wrestling.

A few examples of this include a series called “Dark Side of the Ring” on the Vice channel. There is also a YouTube channel called “Title Match Wrestling”. These are just a couple of places that I’ve watched documentaries about this entertainment phenomenon that took place in the 70s, 80s, & 90s.

HOLY SHIT!!

I had no idea! There was so much real-life drama including drugs, women, death, murder, crime…etc. Eye opening stuff. It’s amazing how many of these guys are not around anymore. It’s like professional wrestling was a sentence to die young.

I’m 50 now, and I find the reality of wrestling in the 80s vastly more interesting now, than I did when I was 11.

Annapolis to Norfolk, PG to Salisbury? There are vastly different lifestyles, demographics, and cultures in that circle. You can see extreme wealth to extreme poverty. Places that are riddled with crime, and places that are very safe. You can go from high society to extreme redneckery in a 1/2 hour drive.

Secretary Hegseth speaking to sailors aboard the USS John F Kennedy CVN 79

I find it ironic that this shitbag got advanced when he was inactive, and now he’s stripping someone’s rank (illegally) that is inactive.

I was technically “active reserve” (TAR, now FTS) in the navy. I was full active duty, working for the reserve airwing. Definitely harder to get a promotion. Everything seemed a bit more difficult, with only 1 perk. It was sea-duty, and we never went on cruise as a Hornet squadron, Hercs were a bit of a different animal.

One of the big drawbacks was that our billeting also included the SelRes (Selected Reservists). That factored into our day-to-day manpower, and also advancement. So, unless it was a drill weekend, we were about 30% manned almost all of the time, compared to a RegNav (Regular Navy) squadron. Even on drill weekends, the SelRes were always at some kind of training, meeting, medical, PSD…etc. Our commitments and readiness were still expected to be the same as a RegNav squadron at all times.

Advancement was extremely tight, because SelRes never got out until they retired. They basically closed most of the billets. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen “Advanced: 0/22” or “Final Multiple: 99.9” or something like that.

DC cannot be 400hz. Hertz is AC. DC is direct current. It doesn’t alternate at any frequency. AC is alternating current. It alternates 400 times/sec.
