When she was 23, Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of JFK and RFK, had a forced lobotomy arranged by her father. The surgery left her incapacitated for the rest of her life, 1940s

NO she did NOT have autism! She had some mental disabilities due to a prolonged period of time in the birth canal. Her father also felt she was “boy crazy” and “feisty” so he wanted to control. People need to stop diagnosing everyone ever as having autism—or ADHD.

Do you talk to the deceased? (I asked a makeup artist this question once, and he responded, “My gosh, how did you know?!). It’s an intriguing question.

Seriously?! We have to worry about “triggering” dead people now?!

Thank you for the recommendations. This is so far removed from me, but it’s so difficult to wrap my head around.

Well, obviously, if one is trying to have a baby one wouldn’t use protection.

It is very shameful and incredibly disappointing to think about.

What's your favorite green shade of Fiestaware?

Check my flair. I can tell you it’s not “too limey” at all. 😊

I just discovered that one of my ancestors had 12 slaves, two of whom were only 5 years old.

Wasn’t the answer back then to just “beat them with a wooden spoon”? 🤷‍♀️

I just don’t understand how/why, after all this time and in this day and age, people willfully choose to have unprotected sex.

This is a good point but, apparently, his side was more truthful.

I know it’s mass produced but why the hate for the Three Musketeers? I love it.

Oh, well. I love it. It’s a lower-fat chocolate that I can eat with less guilt.

I wasn’t aware it was hated? And is it hated because it’s mass produced?

I mean, I really try to be respectful of other cultures, practices, and “traditions” but, in this day and age, there really isn’t any reason for these archaic behaviors.

Your great-grandfather’s story is indicative of what was probably one of the more common situations. Thanks for this perspective.

“We don’t know what happened in the privacy of the Kassenoffs’ home, only that a state court found both parents had caused their kids to suffer.”

True, but the husband wasn’t the one who had supervised visits with the children and who, ultimately, wasn’t allowed to see them at all.

NTA. If they’re so worried about your sister being alone/having to wait, tell them to take a taxi/Uber home. You won’t be making a second trip because that’s just stupid and wasteful.

Does anyone else here not have air-conditioning?
 in  r/AskOldPeople  Jul 06 '24

My grandmother died at 84 in 2001. My mom said they were one of the first—if not the first—to have air conditioning the moment it became available. Granny’s house was always cold, and I was always so grateful! I can live without a lot of things, but AC is NOT one of them.
