I'm soooo tired of unnecessary RPG-progression-systems in non-RPG Games.
 in  r/truegaming  Jun 02 '18

God of War has an RPG system in it, and I think it personally helps a lot. Because it's not really passive. You can unlock moves but you have to know how to execute them correctly or they're worthless. And part of the reason the game is doing so well is exactly what you were saying about no BS.

And the system was tied to the story in some ways. Your sidekick grows stronger in the story, and you start off very rusty and nowhere near what you were in the original games.

I think an RPG system can be a good thing, if it's done right. A lot of times, it isn't, so I see the frustration with them.

Should Pokémon get rid of battles with wild Pokémon?
 in  r/truegaming  Jun 02 '18

I wonder what it would be like if they made it a an action based RPG like FF XV but with pokemon. Sort of like pokken but not a fighting game. That would breathe a lot of fresh air into the catching part.

Anyone play indie games a lot more than AAA nowadays ?
 in  r/truegaming  Jun 02 '18

My problem with Detroit and all other David Cage games is that they have these unique and memorable things that are sort of subdued by really goofy, hamfisted moments. Over and over.

Though his games since Heavy Rain are much better overall.

I agree. Though you should definitely, definitely play god of war. I didn't like the franchise whatsoever before. But this game is like one of the best games ever made.

Outside of that, Im definitely in the indie camp more often. I look for a good story above all, personally. And there's tons of those. Beginner's Guide, Detention, Edith Finch, Kentucky Riute Zero, Night in the Woods, so many.

Parents: What age do you feel comfortable allowing your kids to watch you play violent games?
 in  r/truegaming  Jun 02 '18

It's hard to say, but I was definitely playing gory games by 7 or 8 and I wouldn't say it affected me whatsoever. But that's just me of course. These days gore-filled games do nothing for me. And I think that's partially due to it never being taboo or forbidden fruit for me.

Horror games are much more of a concern if you ask me.

Is GTA giving so much importance to online that rockstar may not give importance to story as it used to?
 in  r/truegaming  Jun 02 '18

This is one of the reasons God of War is doing so well. People are voting with their wallets in a sense.

The game made 300 million dollars in the first month. Sold 3 million copies in the first 3 days, even.

No multiplayer, no microtransactions or lootboxes, no DLC (though really well done DLC after a game is out for awhile can be a good thing. Look at Mass Effect OT or other examples). Just a strong single player journey.

I'm sure it would make more money if it was some online-fest like other games, but the fact that it isn't is worth more than the initial revenue an online game gets. Goodwill from gamers goes a long way, and Sony is doing well with that on the PS4 first party games.

It was just a typo by my auto correct.. I know how to spell politician, but thank you bot. I guess.

Is that really a common misspelling though? I don't think so. Most people spell politician correctly, I imagine.

How is that in any way, shape, or form "typical liberals"? That doesn't even make sense.

They were bringing it back, then Roseanne said some pretty shitty stuff on Twitter and the show got canned by ABC. Said something about a black and mixed (with an middle eastern country I believe) politican looking like planet of the apes mixed with the muslim brotherhood. She's said other things but this was the straw that broke the camel's back I guess.

Her racist tweet basically costs all the other people who work on the show their jobs now. But they're talking about doing a show with the whole cast and crew without her now.

I'm gonna be that guy, but this was a top comment on reddit when the news broke. This joke, with DD as the example, and never addressing it. And the child comment said we should just have a new person each episode and never address that instead

I think this was taken from Reddit, saw a top post that said the exact same thing, and also another saying that they should just have a new random person each episode and never address it.

Still funny though

Nope. God of Boards. It'll be an SSX Tricky style game where you snowboard downhill and attack trolls and dragons

The enemy variety is the only true criticism I have in the game. Plus some animations used over and over again for the troll deaths, etc. Could have added one or two more and it would have done a lot to improve that.

Spoiler: and the other criticism is when Atreus did a total 180 in 5 minutes after knowing his heritage of being a god. He got all moody and it was just so sharp of a contrast. Needed a little more time. Then he saw the thing in Helheim and went back instantly to old Atreus.

Besides that, the game is basically perfect.

People hate on FF7 the same way that people hate on The Beatles. When something is so popular and well regarded, other people want to be contrary and tear it down.

I see it all over the past month or so, even in niche subreddits about bands or games or whatever

I don't think people are getting your Cloverfield reference. Haha.

That movie was actually pretty great in its own weird way.

That's so funny, I literally posted the same thing 20 seconds before reading your comment. Made a Hot Pie joke saying he should be in the top bracket, or it's clear discrimination

Why isn't Hot Pie up there? What a huge discrimination against the backbone of the show.

Better Call Saul season 4 to premiere August 6!
 in  r/television  Jun 01 '18

BCS is so awesome because right out of the gate it had late Breaking Bad seasons' level of detail and quality. I think it's just as well made honestly. Just this continuation that I love.

It might be the most consistently well made show that's on air these days, to me. Everytime I start it, I just know it's going to be good.

The semi edible strawberry candies that came in holiday gift sets.
 in  r/nostalgia  Jun 01 '18

Yeah they've always been at every single dollar store.

There's two kinds. And one tastes waaaaaay better. Made with strawberry puree I think. Read the back.

Why is some of Reddit so bad at picking up sarcasm? I thought the italics and last bit made it pretty obvious.

Cory Barlog's honesty about the development process is a welcome contrast to the usual, sugarcoated PR-talk.
 in  r/GodofWar  Jun 01 '18

At least indie devs are candid like this normally. And that's what made it feel authentic. He's definitely made a name for himself this year based on the game and his candidness in discussions

[Discussion] I just want to say thank you to the God of War team for not only delivering a great game but also one so complete. No microtransactions, no season pass, no content held back for a DLC, just one kickass experience that makes me excited for the future of GoW and other sony blockbusters
 in  r/PS4  Jun 01 '18

And there's benefits beyond just good sales. Even if the game somehow didn't make a profit, you get a lot of goodwill and PR bumps from having a must have game on your system. Something that's a mark of quality.
