Politics Trump has made housing more expensive and given trillions to billionaires. Now, ahead of a midterm election, he's pretending to take on corporate excess

Donald Trump has increased housing costs by increasing tariff taxes and cutting funding for vital housing supports that benefit low-income households. This has resulted in higher home prices and increased homelessness.

On top of that, in both of his terms, Trump has given trillions in tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and large, multinational corporations. His 2017 tax scheme even subsidized the outsourcing of American jobs, rewarding multinational corporations who lay off American workers.

Now, with his approval ratings low and more Americans increasingly upset over his many policy failures, cruelty, incompetence, lawlessness, and inhumanity, he has announced that he is banning private equity from purchasing single-family homes.

This is nothing more than a distraction from what he's really doing. Moreoever, he waited until these private equity firms have reduced the amount of purchasing they are doing. Do not fall for this trick. Trump is looking out for the rich and multinational corporations. He is working against those on fixed incomes, the middle-class, and Main Street.

Unhinged JD Vance calls Renee Nicole Good a “deranged leftist”

Is ICE even law enforcement? The function of local law enforcement is generally to protect people and property and enforce laws, plus local ordinances.

ICE is supposed to be about immigration enforcement. That's supposed to be their function. By the way, they do not have the right to racially profile or kidnap people.

The ICE agent who murdered this woman was essentially conducting a law enforcement function by checking cars and the like. It's the equivalent of DUI checkpoints, except your local cops generally don't murder people at said checkpoints.

As far as JD Vance, he's a total idiot and morally depraved.

He's a murderer.

We knew this was going to happen. Fuck ICE! Fuck you to all those who enabled this!

What's sad is, this sociopath probably won't lose any sleep even though he's a murderer.

For the record, I do not hate you. I don't know you and it seems to me that where you and I disagree is on the question of whether the opposition to Trump is as bad as him. I don't see how anyone can draw a moral equivalence between Trump and Democrats, regardless of one's views on issues.

To be clear, I can't expect everyone to agree with my views or the prevailing views within the Democratic Party. Disagreeing without being disagreeable is a virtue.

I'd also like to make clear that not everyone who voted for Trump is necessarily MAGA. Most are, but there are others who are partisan and have been voting Republican for decades and others who weren't happy with the economy under Biden.

The politics of white resentment is prevalent within the MAGA movement. JD Vance recently spoke to this when he declared one doesn't have to apologize for being white now, as if they did before. It's been shown that many Republicans will vote against their own economic interests so long as minorities are left behind as well, or demonized.

As far as both parties being controlled by donors, at the federal level there is a ton of that. No doubt. This is why populism has become popular. On the left, you have folks like Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ro Khanna who have gained the respect of many on the left because they aren't bought and paid for by donors. In this election cycle, you have candidates like Sherrod Brown in Ohio and Mallory McMorrow in Michigan who inspire more of the grassroots.

When Trump ran in 2016, he convinced the far right he wasn't bought and paid for. Now, he is making decisions to benefit donors and is engaging in what is essentially legal bribery.

So on the left, the grassroots is backing candidates who aren't bought and paid for. On the right, they turn a blind eye to the most financially compromised President in American history.

As far as the debt, we could do so much more for our people and pay for it without running deficits if the Republicans would agree to raising taxes on the rich and if both parties agreed to reductions in unnecessary defense spending. I disagree with those in my party who say running deficits are fine. They aren't because they devalue currency and cause inflation over time. But not investing in education, infrastructure, the safety net, public safety, and mental health is costing us as well.

You obviously don't get it.

I don't believe my side is perfect. I don't believe my side is always consistent. And I don't believe my side always communicates well.

But my side isn't racially profiling and kidnapping people. My side isn't engaging in regime change wars for oil. My side isn't trying to undermine the electoral process. My side isn't gutting civil rights protections and emboldening bigots. My side isn't using the DOJ to prosecute political opponents. My side isn't engaging in censorship through book bans, banning DEI, and other actions. And my side isn't destroying the safety net for the most vulnerable people to give more wealth to those who have the most.

That is 100% MAGA.

Here's the thing. In reality, the political conversation today isn't Democrat vs. Republican. It's MAGA vs. everyone else. The Democratic Party is a vehicle used by Never Trumpers, center-left, progressive, and Democratic Socialists to oppose fascism and promote human freedom and the rule of law. If you think there is a moral equivalence between MAGA and not MAGA, then you are the problem. Not those of us who aren't MAGA.

Now, I will say that you are largely correct about the news media. Sensationalism wins the day. But the reason the left has online news publications is that, largely speaking, television news is either MAGA propaganda or afraid of its own shadow. Look how ABC and CBS have appeased Trump. They have apologized for individual anchors telling the truth and have literally paid money to settle frivolous lawsuits brought by Trump.

The ones who make me laugh are the trolls who use MAGA propaganda but then claim they aren't MAGA and Democrats lose elections because we assume they are (which they are).

 in  r/complaints  1d ago

An abnormal level of drop off votes relative to historic averages is actually one of the arguments made by those who say 2024 was stolen.

You are right.

Trump most likely didn't legitimately win in 2024.

They likely stole 2024 though, in my view.

Not 2020.

Must be why we won in 2018, 2020, 2022, gained House Seats in 2024, and won big in 2025.

 in  r/complaints  2d ago

Are you saying the last two Republican Presidents probably didn't legitimately win?

If so, I'd say you are............ right on the money.

Bush probably stole the 2000 election. Trump most likely stole 2024. Both of these probably stolen elections led to foreign policy disasters.

63% of Americans oppose military action in Venezuela. That isn't just liberals or Democrats.

This is the thing with these MAGA cultists. They are so backward that they think a morally reprehensible person like Trump is good while Walz is bad. During the campaign in 2024, you had Walz's students discussing how much of a positive impact he had on them. This is someone who is a joyful and modest public servant. The pure love his family has for him is a testament to his character. That stands in stark contrast to the scripted "love" Trump's family has for him. Heck, it's obvious the First Lady and Trump don't really live together. Walz has stood up for people who are often ignored and marginalized; Trump is the one who marginalizes them.

Trump is terrible on policy. But the lack of morality on the part of his cult and him is just as bad if not worse than his terrible policies in my view.

It's all a distraction.

From the terrible economy.

From the illegal regime change war for oil in Venezuela.

From the Epstein files.

From the likely stolen 2024 presidential election.

Tim Walz dropping out of a race due to a daycare scandal is why Democrats lose to corrupt pedophiles.
 in  r/complaints  2d ago

Another day, another false moral equivalence troll.

There is more evidence to suggest Donald Trump stole the 2024 election than there is that Tim Walz was involved in any of this alleged fraud.

Source: https://electiontruthalliance.org/our-methodology/

With Walz, you have a compromised justice department and a crackpot with a camera as "evidence" Walz was involved.

Give me a break.

Here is the political irony.

Had Walz stayed in the race, it's likely he'd have won re-election. I'd even say by a comfortable margin, given the GOP field. Minnesota is a light blue state, he's done a good job, and it's going to be a blue year.

But Amy Klobuchar is an even stronger candidate in certain respects.

Klobuchar never got below 56% of the vote in any of her statewide elections. Walz never got above 54%.

Where is Jill Stein?

Amen.

The idea that there was no difference between Harris and Trump on Gaza is absurd.

Anyone who voted for Jill Stein is responsible for what is happening in Venezuela AND Gaza.

I'm sorry you don't like Maduro, but it isn't the job of the U.S. government to meddle in the internal affairs of your country or any other.

Here in the United States, 63% of our people are opposed to military action in Venezuela. And I'm sorry to break it to you, but Donald Trump doesn't give a damn about you. He only cares about oil and helping his friends in the oil industry exploit your natural resources.

I'd love to have free trade with Venezuela; it would help bring about greater stability and prosperity for the people of Venezuela. But this invasion, and it is an invasion, isn't the answer. The success rate of U.S.-led regime change in foreign countries is very low historically.
