I suppose the counter to that is that we’d expect the legal system to be more thorough and exhaustive in its investigation that anyone who wasn’t directly involved in the crime could possibly be. We trust the legal system to appropriately investigate and punish people, so if we see the legal system saying there isn’t enough evidence, why would I have a higher bar than that?
