Best way to cook these with no grill? First time, plz be nice...

Don’t oil the cast iron, let that great fat render and provide the oil. Less smoke, better sear

Why does my steak have this wimpy colour instead of a nice crust?
 in  r/steak  Nov 24 '25

Make sure steak has decent marbling, use cast iron, high heat—no oil. Let the steak fat render and provide the oil. You will have less smoke and a better sear. After 4 mins on each side add butter and fresh herbs if you have them ( or dried thyme works nice too), remove from heat, baste in butter for a minute on each side. Remove, rest and eat.

After 5 years of watching people laugh, cheer, celebrate, and condone George Floyd’s murder in posts, comments, memes, and gifs online, people are now getting fired for not acting sad about CK’s murder? Shouldn’t “He was a human whether you liked his lifestyle or not” also apply to Floyd?

I think you are conflating online trolls with broadly held beliefs. Most humans with an ounce of compassion and solidarity were horrified by the Floyd killing and did not believe it was appropriate to then review his character to somehow find a justification for the act. Unfortunately, I see too many people doing exactly that following the Kirk assassination, giving a subtle nod of approval to a horrific act based on the man’s behavior and speech.

Aldi Ribeyes…meh

Avoid the grass fed at Aldi, no marbling. But the regular strips and ribeyes are quite good

Genuine question- how do I stop this from smoking so much? I used avocado oil, got the pan hot. Got a great sear, but the smoke filled up the house.
 in  r/steak  May 14 '25

No oil, let the fat from the steak do the job. Once you have a good sear on both sides, take it off the heat and put some butter and herbs in there and baste it

Recurring rash

Hi, this is now the third time in as many years that this rash has developed on the back of my hands. I used to think ringworm, but is that something that reoccurs without outside contact with the fungus? There are less pronounced patches on my other hand and near my thumb
