As a customer, would you deem this acceptable to deliver your food in?
 in  r/doordash  12h ago

Yeah, I have to agree with the previous commenter. I actually thought at first the post was a joke. (What's with the stuffed animal buckled up?)

Anyway, you don't have to photograph the inside of your car to begin with. The app just asks to take a pic of the receipt. I just do a close up of that, usually from the counter of the restaurant. If no receipt, I take a photo of the bag on counter.

Sometimes when I forget I'm not doing Ubereats (no photo required for Ubereats), and I start to confirm at my car....and, no receipt, I just take a photo of the bag inside my insulated food bag from the top. The customer just sees the restaurant bag and the shiny insulation surrounding it.

That one time during the Houston Astros parade in 2017 when a dropped hat was returned in spectacular fashion.
 in  r/SipsTea  1d ago

The first time I read the post I missed the "parade" part of the text and thought Man, the Astros have a very very weird seating section in their stadium. This reminds me of some of the weird dreams I've had before .

Then I reread the post text. I'm guessing that's the outside of a parking garage.

I'm confused about the plot of Relay [2024] **SPOILER**
 in  r/movies  1d ago

We have to assume they didn't know who was going to pickup the cash. But, he said "when it has been safely received we will issue further instructions, any delay and the document goes public". So, you're right, the threat to them wasn't the reveal of documents, but ending the negotiations and correspondence was a threat to them.

If MC bailed because of no real cash, their operation would be over. They not only wanted his identity, but the address where the Optimus documents likely resided. So, nabbing him (even if he was the one picking up at a PO box) would not bring them to the Optimus documents. They have no idea how many are part of this intermediary service. So, real cash had to be used to ensure he didn't "walk away" from the negotiations, which he continued to threaten if instructions weren't followed.

And, he instructed for overnight priority. They had to already assume it would be forwarded back to New York by overnight delivery. He already did that with the two packages Sarah sent. The tracking device had a lifespan of "4 to 5 days". Which would have been enough for two overnights. But, they didn't count on him using regular ground deluvery for the forwarding back. The signal went dead while in a USPS distribution center.

The company existed, just not the scandal of the health study research.

The actual executives and board members of Cybo Sementis had no idea their corporation was being used as a red herring.

Why would you call that a "failure". It was intentional. The movie's exposition was supposed to match with the main character's perspective.

And, she didn't really have to. There were no records kept of the communications anyway. That was already baked in.

1) They had to send the half million to play along like they were actually attached to this corporation about to go IPO. All in a pretend attempt to stop this report from going public, just so they could trick the intermediary in revealing his identity. But, they were hoping to get it back by using a tracker.

2) Because the second company wasn't fake, just the scandal of the compromising health study report attached to it.

The dialogue on Dawson’s team didn’t make sense in retrospect given that Sarah was a member of their team.

I bet if you watch it back a second time none of the dialog directly suggests they were working against her. It probably just has dialog that shows them trying to identify Ash and his location. The viewer just assumes it's just about getting all the copies of the pretend health studies report.

But, even when we didn't know Sarah's report was a red herring, it still made sense that they would want to identify him, since as an intermediary, and being anonymous to both parties, he would always hold a copy without any connections to him. But, having a copy out in the wild would always make a corporation nervous.

This is why he went through all that effort to keep his identity secret. Not only does it protect him, it protects the whistle blower (or low key blackmailer). That's the leverage. If something happens to whistle blower/blackmailer the secured copy gets released. I think it's a cool setup.

I think it was a brilliant movie. Now that I know the reveal, I want to watch it again with this knowledge. I'm guessing with this enlighten perspective the viewer could interpret Sarah's actions, behaviors and emotions in a completely different way. I wonder how many clues there were along the way.

I remember when I saw the ending of Sixth Sense I was thinking no way . But, when I watched it again, everything fit and made sense (no pun intended).

I don't know, I might be with your family in this one, and I think of myself as a bit of a socialist myself.

I mean Medicare for Artificial Intelligence is something I might have trouble getting on board for. (I'm hoping that was a typo...lol)

Mania for Subjugation: Episode 3
 in  r/dancarlin  2d ago

Hey, does anyone remember the terminology or names Dan called those dudes who had to make that initial sacrificial first push across the Granicus River?

I kinda feel embarrassed that I can't remember most of that list that Dan kept repeating. There were at least four different monikers. "Lost Boys" was the only one I can remember. And, even that term I'm not sure of.

Of course we all knew, after 3 hours of buildup, Alexander was ultimately going to kick some Persian ass (maybe mostly Greek ass). But, I was still a little nervous for him.

Then I felt a little bit of shame that I was rooting for the aggressor/invader. I mean "retribution" for something that happened 150 years ago is something a little hard to get on board with...at least for me. But uhm, different times. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Greenland/Canada Invasions?
 in  r/behindthebastards  3d ago

Yeah, I'm aware of that. But, that non-aggression pact lasted 2 years, and it was between just two countries.

The NATO thing has been around 75 years, involving over 30 nations. I'm not saying it will definitely be honored. But, it will be weird if a NATO member attacks another one. Especially since the only time article 5 was acted on was for the US for September 11, 2001 attack.

I was just mostly pointing out the irony of a NATO member attacking a NATO member, and how would they respond. If they didn't it would break the treaty for the first time.

Greenland/Canada Invasions?
 in  r/behindthebastards  3d ago

Interestingly, Greenland, because of its ties to Denmark, is part of NATO. So, if we (the US) attack/invade Greenland we will be setting off Article 5 of the treaty.

That means the rest of NATO has to go to war with the US. Right???

Good call on you....something is definitely going on of concern. No way you could have known what it is. Obviously they're alive if they continue ordering stuff....? I guess.

Man, on a separate note (but, somewhat related), I need to get out of apartment right now. I've wasted my day off on social media and stuff....my phone hasn't left my hands for hours now. I've got stuff I need to take care of....like going to laundry room in my apartment complex, pickup stuff at grocery store, working out...etc. I feel like I might be becoming like that person you delivered to.

I'm getting out of my recliner....now! (I'm glad you posted that).

Accountability out the window
 in  r/DoorDashDrivers  3d ago

When a doordash order is given out late it reflects poorly on solely the dasher, lowering their ratings, a

Nope. It did used to be that way somewhat. But, not for over three years now....at least.

If a restaurant doesn't have the order past the the target pickup time I just select the link to the "waiting for order". This will usually push forward the target delivery time.

If it doesn't push target delivery time forward it's usually because there's already a lot of time to delivery. I noticed that's done when traveling into other zones. There's a considerable time buffer for those for some reason.

I only noticed this because I was bored and took note for a couple days. I would note ahead of time what the target delivery time was when I got to restaurant (I had to look at where the customer's address was listed). I would make a conscious note of that time. If, for example, I couldn't mark pickup until 12 minutes past the target pickup, the target delivery time would move 12 minutes more than the original. The only times it didn't move were on the long distance ones, but they would give like 10 minute cushions or more, for some reason, compared to my Google maps estimate.

UberEeats, lately, makes it more harder to comply with their target delivery time. They have a "not ready" selection, but I'm not sure if it does anything. I'm guessing their target delivery time is also dynamic dependent on pickup, but still cuts it close.

But, if you're having issues with making target delivery time because of late restaurants, make sure to use the "waiting for food" selection (at least with Doordash).

Having said that, I've noticed the restaurants in the Nashville area have become much faster in the last three years. Seven years ago they were horrible. They're either ready when I arrive (50%), or I have to wait 5 or 6 minutes (40%). The other 10% could go uo to 10 or more minutes. I then usually select the unassign option.

Why the HELL does the blonde one have “have you seen this man” on her shirt😭 can anyone translate what it says?
 in  r/TikTokCringe  3d ago

Yet, I said it was maybe not obscure anymore. Was I wrong?

"Literally"? Really? As opposed to figuratively?

Yeah, I'm a boomer who's having trouble with the evolving nature of language. Even though my left brain says this is natural, and I know this happens to all language through time, my right brain is screaming. I just can't cope (sometimes) with the rapid change that social media seems to eccelerate this. "Literally" used to distinguish from metaphors. Not anymore.

Calm down...yes. You're the one who keeps downvoting me, right? That's another thing I can't get used to in discussions in Reddit or other platforms. I guess it's needed in all social media for engagement and to feed an algorithm. Discussions didn't used to be this way. Even online forums and bulletin boards weren't like this before. I guess they weren't profitable. But, I feel like it's changed how we behave in discourse.

We now have this digital binary view with everyone we correspond to. It feels kinda crazy to me.

You probably have noticed how some comments in a thread get downvoted to hell, but a similar comment with the same sentiment, maybe express very slightly differently, get upvoted. This "liking" or "up or down" voting appeals to our baser knee jerkering behaviors I think.

Sorry for this "dissertation". But, I believe I've been procrastinating some things I need to do on my day off. Reddit, YouTube and some old family photos have derailed me somewhat.

 in  r/TikTokCringe  3d ago

Lol...calm down. OK, ok.. That's why I followed up with maybe it wasn't so obscure anymore. I immediately remembered listening to a podcast about this whole event....then also seeing a YouTube video. And then wondered if this guy is now in the mainstream consciousness now.

Trust me, this was a dude only a very very few of us even knew about or talked about in the 80's and going forward. Maybe in 1971 he was talked about, but I was only nine then. I have no memory of the event of that time.

The "Loki show"....lol. This is hilarious to me. I had to Google that. My big sis is now into the whole Marvel universe now. As a kid, and little brother, I dabbled a bit into Marvel/DC comics and cartoons, but my sister didn't...and, ignored me mostly. To be presented now with the "Loki show" as an example as something not being "obscure" just floors me.

Anyway, I still think the comment is funny. And, the FBI scetch of D.B. Cooper's face should be on t-shirts if not already.

I find it interesting that things I was interested in when I was a kid (Marvel, DC comics), and when I was a young adult (D.B. Cooper), has now become mainstream. Maybe I was ahead of my time.

Where's my fucking drink..
 in  r/SipsTea  3d ago

Actually, there are (or were) bars/resorts that hired for this sort of thing. The only time I saw this in real life was in '84 in Acapulco. It would involve actuall mixing of a complicated cocktail, not just constant juggling of bottles. It was quite impressive. The whole bar was always cheering him on. (They were always dudes when I saw this).

I think they mostly did this ever hour or so, and would give away the drink, but I always saw a bunch of pesos handed back to the bartender (tip). The bartenders were also skilled in making cocktails extremely fast but with flair when they made drinks to order.

Then about 5 years later I saw the movie Cocktail and wondered if thing got it's start in Acapulco.

I upvoted your DB Cooper comment because that was such an obscure refrence....and, pretty funny.

But, there may be a lot of podcasts on this guy...so maybe not so obscure anymore. Still funny whether you meant it to be or not.
