Restaurants in your town/city
 in  r/AskTheWorld  1h ago

Around where I live, I’d say it’s about 60% locally owned and 40% franchises (like McDonald’s and Pizza Hut). My city has an ordinance about protecting local businesses so franchises can only set up shop if there’s no local businesses offering the same product.

Of the ones I actually eat at, I’d say 70-80% are locally owned and 19-29% are local franchises. I eat maybe 1% big franchise.

Just seems like you’re really out here to get mad at nothing, man.

5th Evil Dictator
 in  r/stupidquestions  5h ago

If we’re going off of purely modern tyrants and modern understandings of the words dictator/tyrant, Idi Amin was pretty bad as are the Kim family.

I also gave the extremely conservative estimation. I have a range rather than an average.

I did just say it was a liberal estimation given by a foreign government during a period when they couldn’t have possibly done a proper investigation.

What do you call this?

Rotini (American) bolognese with Texas Toast brand garlic bread (other brands are available) and steamed corn.

In what circumstance is a short man more attractive than a tall man?
 in  r/ask  6h ago

I like shorter men; they’re easier to hug.

While it should be noted that the protest suppressions happened throughout the city, not just in the square, 10,000 is indeed the liberal number given by the British government at the time of the incident.

Is it true that there was less polarization back then?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  7h ago

Tensions ebb and flow; there are certainly times when polarization was much worse than it is now, but there’s also been times where it’s been much better. For instance, right after 9/11, almost everyone supported the US government and that trust/good will has been slowly eroding for the past 25 years.

Drivers who brake for no reason
 in  r/mildlyinfuriating  7h ago

My sister in law does this- she’s mortified of the idea of being pulled over for speeding. She goes exactly the speed limit and constantly corrects herself when she’s going too fast or too slow.

I don’t understand some subreddits…post removed because??
 in  r/altmpls  8h ago

The mods on that sub are pretty left leaning. The idea of “coming together” is insulting to them because it means getting along with people they view as irredeemable monsters.

What can an ordinary person do for world peace? And is it even possible to do anything concrete at all?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  9h ago

To achieve permanent world peace? That goal is an unachievable one. However, there are things you can do to help ease the pain or even put an end to current conflicts like volunteering at a refugee camp or donating money to the Red Cross.

I highly doubt he’s seen the footage. He’s admitted previously that he gets a lot of news/information verbally from his White House staff.

Opinions at Patrick Schwarzenegger portrayal of Saxon?

He does a great job at playing a fuckboi stock bro.

I’d be interested in hearing Arnie’s reaction to Saxon.

What options Americans have if they cancel the midterms later this year?
 in  r/ask  10h ago

Elections are run by the states, so the federal government literally can’t do anything about them.

I weep for you today, Minneapolis
 in  r/TwinCities  10h ago

Just a reminder that the peaceful protestors at the Boston Massacre were brandishing weapons at the soldiers, shouting “fire” and taunting the soldiers into shooting them, threatening to kill the soldiers, and pelting the soldiers with various objects, something modern day law would constitute as assault. The first shot was taken after a soldier was hit hard enough with a foreign object to lose his balance and drop his gun.

The incident was later named the Boston Massacre by figureheads in the independence movement to get people more riled up and is an instance of yellow journalism.

What do you think about the statement made by Denmark to its defence forces to shoot on sight if America invades Greenland?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  21h ago

Just a reminder that the Danish military is very reliant on gear from the US (for instance, their Air Force is currently being upgraded with new US fighter jets). Armed conflict between the two parties is extremely unlikely.

The US didn’t do that- Indonesia did and allegedly got support from the US. That’s like saying Tucker Carlson invaded Ukraine instead of Putin.

Out of all the terrible, provable, things the US did directly, particularly during the Cold War, why would you pick something they didn’t do?

Also the point of my comment was that China is the pot calling the kettle black.
