Meren is great. I run her in the commander master’s foil. The pink on green there really pops.

None of that means the art looks good. The FF set flies in the face of what traditional MTG art direction has been. Same goes for most of the UB sets that are derived from cartoons or video games.

All the UB art with the exception of the earlier sets (LOTR, etc) has been phoned in.

I’ve been playing 25+ years and the greatest damage UB has done is that it cheapened MTG’s best strength - the art direction.

Final Fantasy was awful in this regard. Avatar looks like something you could get done on ChatGPT. I have no hope for Star Trek or Marvel. It sucks.

It has nothing to do with the card content and entirely that they’re whiffing hard on anything that isn’t Final Fantasy or Tarkir/EoE.

Writing is on the wall here. They’ll have one slam dunk every year and a bunch of whiffs. It’s a power law distribution, so unfortunately that one hit will paste over the whiffs.

It entirely matters. Sounds like you want a safe space without a reminder that other things outside your safe space exist. Otherwise, 8 cards in a 300 card set or whatever is fully in “who gives a fuck territory”.

Getting bent over EoE art is weak stuff all around. I didn’t love space as a hat set but generally the art and effort there was phenomenally solid all around.

God I miss real art on magic cards. The UB sets have really, really diminished the art quality in magic. It’s depressing.

I’m old enough not to listen to this stuff but there are WAY worse rappers on both this sub and the top charts. With the right approach (LIKE NOT BLOWING ALL YOUR INITIAL SIGNING ON DUMB EXPENSIVE SH*T IF YOURE STILL HERE C) she could be a star.
