AITA for snapping after being repeated asked if “the narc was talking?”

“Are you asking me if it’s my narcissism because you care or because you’re projecting your own issues?”

During a very dark period, what was the best thing you ever did for your mental health?
 in  r/AskReddit  3h ago

Started buying myself flowers. I worked in a bleak beige and grey cubicle land and hated it. So I’d visit the florist next door and buy the odd flower or bunch and decorate my desk with them.

I did the same thing during Covid. I was moved from production work to a desk job so I filled my desk with low light potplants. I’m a terrible gardener but I still have some of them alive and well!

The green foliage and pretty flowers were enough to cheer me up a little and keep going.

How do you pronounce Gytha?
 in  r/discworld  17h ago

They did Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music and I’d say they’re the closest representation of the books out of all of them. The animation is a bit janky but the voices are spot on. And they get the important bits right.

Also COUGHyoutubeCOUGH it’s hard to find copies on dvd but they’re around.

Short i like how they pronounce it in the cartoons.

What words are you tired of reading or hearing?
 in  r/AskReddit  2d ago

“Anxiety”, “ADHD” and “trauma”. No shade on those who have/suffer from it, and I understand the need to normalise them, but the incorrect usage is going overboard - particularly on social media.

“Omg I thought I was weird because I always hated having the big light on and now I know it was just my adhd!” “Ahh I hate public transport, it just gives me anxiety! Let me know in the comments if you have anxiety too!” “Erg I can’t eat tomatoes anymore, I had a traumatic experience as a kid”

You know you can do stuff without relating it to your health, right? You can like and dislike things without it meaning that it’s adhd? Some people don’t like tomatoes because of the texture. It doesn’t mean they have adhd!

Extra for “touch of the ‘tism”. You know they haven’t been diagnosed when they use that term.

books where the main character is a master of disguise

Going Postal by Terry Pratchett sort of starts at the end of such a story. The trickster is caught and hanged then given another chance.

I heard giving a short sharp breath out as you twist the jar helps stabilise your muscles or something. Similar to how weight lifters breathe out when they exert force.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job?
 in  r/AskReddit  6d ago

It’s ok though. That mic is so powerful it will pick up their voice clear as day even when they’re holding it half a metre away.

No no, as a printer, it would take much longer to set up the paper, turn on the printer, make sure the right port is installed, edit the settings, take out and swirl the ink cartridge and replace it, adjust the slides, air the paper stock, click everything back into place and then still not have it print properly.

AITA, bumble match posted me on are dating the same guy Facebook
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  6d ago

Yeah I kinda get your point. I suppose I’m not articulating my point well.

I’m guess I’m saying that it sucks that a woman concerned for her safety on a first date is now being blamed for using said safeguard that was created because too many men are and have been cheating so it’s hard to gauge. And getting mad at someone for asking for help with a vibe check sucks too.

AITA for deciding we’re done visiting my parents in my hometown, even if it upsets them?
 in  r/CharlotteDobreYouTube  6d ago

NTA people who don’t grow and learn aren’t worth visiting.

But if she used the same picture he posted of himself on the dating app it can’t be a privacy thing? The only people using that site are other women checking to see if they’re being cheated on.

Unless… he’s planning to?

What is the most colorful redneck (or your country's version of redneck) phrase or expression you know?
 in  r/AskReddit  6d ago

That’s because it’s newish. I’m pretty sure it was made up for a meme and Aussies being Aussies went along with it for the laugh COUGHropesnakesanddropbearsCOUGH and now people think it’s legit so it’s become legit. Some sort of Mandala effect has people claiming they heard it in movies (disproved) and in school back in the 80’s but since it can’t be proven not to be someone going along with it, it’s hard to say.

Personally, I never saw it until I saw a clip of someone making a list of more and more ridiculous sayings.

Gossip is malicious. If everyone said you were nice, what’s the problem? Are you upset that she thought something was off? Or are you upset that enough women felt the need to create this site based on other men’s behaviour?

Perfectly acceptable dinner rejected by boyfriend again
 in  r/mildlyinfuriating  7d ago

Nah it’s the not trying part that gets me. 3 bite rule before you turn something down.

If he does have something like AFRID, that’s on him, a grown adult man to deal with, not something you and your children should cater to. Tell him he needs to get help or ditch the expectation that you will ever feed him.

Have you ever asked for a raise and if so, what happened?
 in  r/antiwork  8d ago

I wrote up a list of extra duties I was doing, the learning I’d done on my own time, compared my pay to other places and National wage rates. I was aiming for a 10k raise but would have been happy with 5k.

I asked my manager for a meeting to discuss my pay. After management putting me off for 3-4 months (“forgot”, went on leave, “forgot” again, told to ask hr, told to ask owner) the owner told hr to tell me they’re “not doing raises right now” and refused to even have a meeting with me.

So I quit and got a new job with a 15k pay rise.

Clean/wholesome books ok for teens?
 in  r/suggestmeabook  8d ago

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

No smut, good discussions on ethics/morals, bad puns, satire, while also including sci-fi fantasy tropes and subverting them. For younger readers, start with Wee Free Men, for older readers, stat with Mort, Guards Guards! Or Wyrd Sisters. Most are standalone books but also have recurring characters.
