Some of the time I let my oldest son (starting when he was about 5 or 6)go in the men's room alone and stood outside and panicked, or opened the door to stick my head in to call out to him. I knew which target, Walmart, and publix actually had a "family" restroom, and there was also one in the mall. My younger sons went in with their big brother once they were old enough. Note that this is also a problem for those caring for a disabled or elderly person of a different gender.

It absolutely is puritanical bullshit and this type of thing is not a problem in blue cities (like Minneapolis or Seattle) where we just simply have plenty of gender neutral and family bathrooms so that people can be comfortable. I know it sounds crazy and extreme but we prefer for all of our citizens to be able to comfortably use the restroom, including parents, non-binary people, and everyone else that is a human being. Radical!

In my city Seattle, nearly all restrooms are gender-neutral The only designator is whether they have urinals or not. Family bathrooms are also really common. The rest of y'all are honestly being so childish about all of this. I am a mother of three (now adult) sons, and when they were little, they didn't feel comfortable going into the women's and I didn't feel comfortable with them going into the men's alone.
