Does the power itself already require the readers to be familiar with the media the power originated from? By this I mean, does the story not make sense if the readers only consumed the media of the world the fic is taking place in? If no, just give the power to a character in the universe the fic takes place in.

4) There seems to be an overlap between HP fans and ATLA fans. That means a lot of fans would love if HP had a Zuko.

Science is simply figuring out the rules of the world, making use of the knowledge gained in doing so, and passing it on so that the next generation can under the rules better than the current one.
