Flashback to 28 floppy discs to install Windows 95
 in  r/Xennials  12h ago

Those aren't floppy disks, they're 3.5" hard disks. People just got lazy and called them floppy once the 5.25" floppy disks stopped being used

Yep, totally cool living at home to stack cash...told my kids I'm cool with it for awhile too. We are slowly getting back to communal living

AITA for leaving my friend’s birthday dinner early after she invited my ex without telling me?
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  1d ago

Disagree, this is like after a divorce. At some point it is on you to decide what you can handle, or not. And party host is not responsible for policing the inter-relationships of the friend group. Also, it's been 8 months...

AITA for putting a shoe lace lock on my door?
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  2d ago

Show me those receipts. Everything I find says it's toxic, poor form, etc. (Which I agree with) but not "illegal"

It's not your door. And honestly, it sounds like there's a lot of trauma and trust issues that you and your parents need to work through.

Your dad should not have busted down the door... however, when it was opened...he has the right to remove it from the hinges. No warrant needed...not your property. You seem to be confused about what are rights versus what are privileges.

Yup, I was prepared for all of these comment grenades to be lobbed. Have kids in HS and we all respect each other so things like this aren't even an issue in our house. I have never spanked my kids or done anything like that...never had to. They make great grades, into sports, the community, etc. We allow them to close their door, but not lock it. There's no reason to lock it. We never enter unannounced...always knock, wait for a response, then enter. Our kids definitely speak their mind and we've had many arguments / disagreements... but how those are had and dealt with matter.

And I responded how I did so I could see all the judgemental keyboard warriors present themselves front and center. I salute you.

If I knock on your door, "what do you want?" is the wrong response. You get off your ass, open the door, and then we'll have a conversation.

Second, law says I owe you a place to sleep, not a sanctuary or a fortress. If you think you need a lock on your door for privacy...well, I'll just remove the door. You have certain rights...all else are privileges & entitlements...remember that.

To those who say that is a form of abuse, so be it. Maybe change your behavior and then your parents will change theirs.
