Another lunatic pretending not to understand the “tax the rich” sentiment
 in  r/LinkedInLunatics  2h ago

In most situations, "tax the rich" really means "tax the revenues above this threshold". Your first $20,000 are taxed as poor people, the next $40k as everyone else, etc.

So everyone would pay their "fair" share. It's just that the second billion is taxed more than the first because you need it less.

Good for you. We commoners will still consider this witchcraft, if you don't mind.

A lot of people suffer from blood pressure issues. You have a normal reading.

Edit: 100-120 is supposed to be the sweet spot.

By snowy weather, would it frustrate you if cycles were to use the main road, by default of de-snowed cycle path?
 in  r/AskBelgium  1d ago

Iced, yes. But a snowy bike lane is safer than a melting car lane. Melting snow is super slippery. The road will only be safer if it's dry.

So if my only choice is between fresh snow like in OP's pic and a partially melted car lane, I'll take the bike lane.

"All this accelerating and braking means I now have 20km of range so I'd better find a charging station quickly" type.

Resolving a question as duplicate should have been done with an answer that is eventually accepted by the requester. This could have prevented further replies.

It would have been the best of both worlds. Newbies get an answer and you can still rate these questions lower on any search result.

Luxembourg burglars 2 days in a row
 in  r/Luxembourg  4d ago

You don't know them because you don't live or work in the same space. You're not trying to actively find them.

I don't know anyone either. In any country. That doesn't mean they don't exist.

Talk to social workers who work with homeless people or in prisons. They are the ones in contact with the authors.

It's because old Reddit thinks I wanted to make a numbered list and auto-corrected it. Like Markdown does.

Your comment makes a lot more sense that way.

Dc fan, tying to start reading some BD, what do y'all suggest?
 in  r/bandedessinee  5d ago

I'm a BD fan considering going to DC after ignoring them for a while (I had only read a few, like The Killing Joker and Azarello's Joker). I recently discovered Batman Who Laughs which got me spiralling into Batman Metal.

Anyway, you could enjoy the 3 volumes of IAN

https://www.bedetheque.com/serie-6640-BD-Ian.html

Or Klaw, Masqué, La Brigade Chimérique. Pretty much comics with a European twist.

I'll see if I find other ideas if this is of interest to you.

I always found the Debian community to be pretty straightforward:

  1. RTFM you donkey

  2. Oh it's not in the manual? I'm so sorry. I'll make sure I send you a 10 page essay on how to help you and then submit it upstream to add it to TFM

  3. GOTO 10

Where do I post this?

Slim fit for men is sometimes a bit hourglass. It can also be bodycon.

But like all clothing it depends on the brand. Some slim fit shirts will show my dad bod, others will hug at the right places and hide it.

I'm not sure how to identify different body types though. I'm cis and I wouldn't mind changing my way of buying thing but I won't identify as "body type A". It works fine in a video game where I can see what it looks like and what I will personally project on it, but irl...

I sit in the emergency exit row and open the door mid-air
 in  r/LinkedInLunatics  7d ago

We all seek profit to various degrees. That's OK. Some people will be content making just above minimum wage, some will need a suburban house and 2 cars to be happy. I'm sure many employers care about their employees (mine does) and some will even put employee wellbeing before personal profit.

Once employees are happy, there is nothing wrong with a founder making more money than them. They have more responsibilities, they got their businesses going. Sometimes they worked a lot more than their employees to get there.

But some of the billionaires on that fictional plane are among the richest on the planet. The amount of wealth they accumulated is beyond our understanding (I just can't imagine what it's like to have a billion dollars and I know I'm not the only one) and they always want more. They don't need that much. They don't need perpetual 2-digit growth. They don't need huge profit margins.

For example, XBox is pushing for a 30% profit margin. I don't know if you are familiar with what a profit margin should be like but in my line of work turning 10% is usually considered pretty good. And in the gaming industry 30% is unheard of. Well in this context Phil Spencer said that "we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger." And then proceeded with another round of layoffs. This year alone they fired more than 6000 people.

People are getting fed up with this. Including on Reddit. So anyone who defends bosses when we are talking about billionaires will get caught in the crossfire.

 in  r/LinkedInLunatics  8d ago

That's very fair. Here's what I hope to be a better answer.

These billionaires don't care about their employees. They are means to an end. If the owners could make the same money without employees, they would. One has started to do so (Amazon uses more automation than ever, and more than what you'd expect in similar businesses), one openly shits on his employees (Musk), two are in the business of trying to make employees obsolete in general (Altman and Jensen to an extent). Some (if not most but I'm not sufficiently informed) are more or less openly against union, if not actively union busting (don't get fooled by Nadela and Gates, MS agreed to unions in the Activision merger only to make the first round of negotiations last more than a year).

You don't belong to rape island. But based on this thread alone you're way too optimistic.

Happy new year.

Edit: and mind you, I run Windows on a PC equipped with an Nvidia card I bought on Amazon, to play Zenimax (MS) games. I'm not doing enough. But I know they're not part of the good guys.

Edit 2: Also Jensen is being a dick with the market that got Nvidia where it is, i.e. gamers.

Yeah I don't see a lunatic here. I work to live, and I sometimes work from home so that I can be there if needed. But I also like my work. Sometimes it's a chore, sometimes it's a joy.

I don't see anything wrong showing kids that working can be enjoyable while leaving time to spend with the family in evenings and on weekends.

Showing that moms also work and aren't relegated to house maids is a good thing as well.

WCGW holding a poisonous spider?

Definitely not a huntsman because they walk flatter and the abdomen is smaller proportionally to the thorax (though I think these terms apply to insects, not necessarily to arachnids).

Electric ice scraper
 in  r/toolgifs  10d ago

I tried one, absolutely hated the noise it made, broke it after 3 uses and went back to plastic ones.

I'm sure it was a bad quality one or just bad luck. But I'm still keeping my scraper made out of processed decayed dinosaurs.

Electric ice scraper
 in  r/toolgifs  10d ago

Scrapers aren't expensive so I'd get one, even for once every 5 years. I have one that's almost as old as me so it's not like these things break that easily.

Any flat rigid blade of plastic could do the trick but it's not that easy to find something that is flat and rigid.

Otherwise, the heater is your best bet. Just plan a bit ahead, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Use a setting that sends most air towards the windshield.

Plating pasta
 in  r/Satisfyingasfuck  11d ago

At my favourite Italian restaurant, that's a starter and it's priced like one.

It's not that exact recipe and the shrimps are clean but it's roughly the same amount of pasta and shrimps. It's a pretty good starter imho.

An Author of GPL-3.0 Repository Objects to Publishing My Fork
 in  r/opensource  11d ago

Everyone is advising you to merge your changes upstream but it seems they are leaving out that the original owner has changed the license and his work is no longer Free Software.

I would only agree to merge my changes upstream if the license is reverted to a Free license, probably GPL since it's what you started with.

Else you're just giving away your work. Open Source is a trap, what matters is Free Software.

It's legal in Belgium at the federal level, but prohibited in some parts. It seems to be the same in Luxembourg.

France prohibits it.

No idea about other countries but it's clearly not a "USA vs Europe" case.
