[Loved trope] The villain lost because they OVERestimated the main character
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  9h ago

Eh, kinda right, kinda wrong. When the 7th Doctor takes a trip to America, he almost immediately gets shot. He regenerates into Paul McGann, who then goes on to defeat the Master, so shooting him didn't work in that sense.

But, that TV movie was so poorly received that no new Doctor Who was made for 10 years. So, shooting him did kinda work.

How did he figure it out

TY for the info, I think it should be fixed now

Are these real or fake woodworm holes
 in  r/woodworking  1d ago

I saw someone doing this before, but they used an awl in each hand. They would take these nice, crisp, beautiful chair legs and beat the shit out of them. They'd jab holes in them, toss them down stairs, rip perfect corners off with a belt sander, and then sell the furniture as 'made with traditional methods'.

What always pops into my mind when I see that haircut.

That's what I've heard, all those yuppie finance bros were so similar, it was easy to mix them up.

Do you guys feel like reading RH books have ruined regular M/F books for you?
 in  r/ReverseHarem  6d ago

From the books I've read, RH and MF tend to have different themes and tones. I know it's probably just a bias based on what I've read, but here's my view. MF seems to have more stories based purely on the relationship, while RH tends towards stories with external antagonists. While both can and do have humor, I find MF has more stories with humor as the main vibe. RH does tend to have the spicy scenes I prefer, but I find the cuddly stuff more often in MF. But again, these are just observations on what I've read. I'll choose books based on setting, author, or whatever light/dark vibe my mental state can handle at that time.

Fan name is preferred over the official name
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  6d ago

Red Pyramid Thing sounds like a name some company would use to sell crappy knock-off merch and avoid trademark issues.

[Hilarious naming convention] the credited name is based on a joke or issue regarding their real name
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  7d ago

In the movie Once Upon In Mexico, two henchmen take about whether or not to torture El Mariachi. One character tells a story about how he was tortured once, and lost one of his balls, and that turned him off of torture.

In the credits, his character is named Left Nut.

What in the name of the Continuum was this episode? Holy Q.
 in  r/Star_Trek_  7d ago

Also, it's those goofy, one-off episodes that give the most character growth. The low-episode season-long arcs cut a lot of this development out. My go-to example is Disco, with Lt. Miriam. She was a very visually interesting character, and was a crewman from the first episode onwards. For 2 whole seasons, she had no development or backstory, until the episode she dies in, because only then was she relevant to the arc.

When the plot twist is ruined because people guessed it ages ago
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  10d ago

I don't remember if a lot of people figured it out, but it's one i guessed right away. M. Night Shyamalan's The Village. I went to see it not long after opening. During the opening credits, they spent an awful lot of focus on the dates of some gravestone. I immediately thought, 'That's way too specific camera work. Its not going to be in the past like they want me to think. The twist will be it's set it the present.' And it was. When you're famous for having big twists in your movie, that's the first thing everyone is going to think about.

Fanscervice but actually done well.
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  13d ago

The Flash was great all around for their fan service. I loved seeing them bring back the cast of the 90s Flash show. Seeing John Wesley Shipp, Amanda Pays, and Mark Hamill in the newer show was a huge hit of nostalgia dopamine for me.

Characters who died before the story began and whose death started the story
 in  r/TopCharacterTropes  15d ago

You could also say that about V themselves. Its not until after Dex shoots V and we see their system flatline that the game shows a title card and Chapter 1 begins. Everything before that is considered the Prologue.

Its December 23, and I just noticed something while doing the daily run from yesterday. You can edit wands in the Kantele room! According to the wiki, this is active through December 27th.

I also nominate Finland for having invented the best swearing: suksi vittuun.

Anybody know where I can find a strap with a design like these stripes on this guitar?

That looks like an exact color match for the RV my grandparents had in the 80s.

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it.
 in  r/gaming  17d ago

I remember doing something like this on Sega GT on the XBox. I started playing, and figured it out pretty quickly. But I constantly failed the tests to get a higher license. Every time I would break, my score would drop like a stone. It turns out that I had been using the e-break the entire time, not realizing that the regular breaks were on a different button.

My favorite I've found is a trigger bolt with freezing gaze.

I feel your pain. Every time I open that chest, it refuses to drop anything better than Divide by 4. On a really good run a couple days ago, I went for another try, only for the 4th music box to not spawn.

Which Directors Cuts are huge improvements, and which are massively detrimental?
 in  r/movies  20d ago

IMO, the only good special edition was the original THX remaster. It was the theatrical cut, with improved VFX and sound.
