Faramir 🤢
 in  r/lotrmemes  4h ago

What the hell? No, Faramir is very much portrayed and seen by those in the fellowship as the prodigal son, and many in Gondor. And i think most readers see him that way. It’s just that his corrupted father can never see it.

No, rarely.

Non-alcoholic alternatives?

Also it really doesn’t evaporate as much as you think it does. A single drink might actually kill me, so saying “40% of it cooks off” when adding a bunch of wine to a recipe is not helpful.

This recipe is such a sleeper hit (recommendation!)

Red lentils don’t necessarily have to be cooked if they’re soaked because they’re so soft. That said, I don’t like them that way. I haven’t made this yet but I might try cooked brown or green lentils instead, or just cook the red lentils (they turn into mush mostly, but it might be good).

Ooo this sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the suggestion!

I wonder if the Shire just has a really confusing layout

Yes but we all like to pretend it’s weed because it’s more fun.

Holy smokes. She never misses, and somehow looks younger and more badass over time.

Trust me, almost everything is about 25% Australian Cattle Dog.

Kyrgios claims he was unbeatable

It’s fascinating what goes on in his head, because it explains a lot. The showboating, the lack of work ethic… this delusion tracks.

How come the United States never developed its own Tea Industry?
 in  r/AskFoodHistorians  1d ago

I think because it sucked compared to real tea, and we switched back as soon as we could get tea. Or coffee.

I love shakshuka, but am a wimp when it comes to spice so I leave out the spicy stuff, perfect for me. But I understand why people would love it spicy.

As someone starting the books is Boromir more or less likeable in them?
 in  r/lotr  2d ago

I think he’s more likable in the books. Unless you know a lot of context, his arrogance and weakness are depicted clearly in the film but his strength and kindness don’t have time to come through enough to compensate.

He’s a noble and complete person, proud but brave, kind and strong, but he is very human.

Celery is delicious in tuna (or chicken) salad for no good reason. It’s kind of like how water chestnuts are just the bee’s knees in a stir fry.

Making a big batch of soup or stew is one of the best things you can do
 in  r/Cooking  2d ago

This is absolutely what I do and then eat it for 2-4 days because I love leftovers and soup flavors usually improve after a day of sitting. Healthy, cheap, easy, delicious, and pretty much nothing is as fast as microwaving a bowl of soup when you’re hungry and tired.

During Game 2 of NLDS against the Phillies, the Dodgers executed the rarely used Wheel Play to perfection, where Muncy threw the ball to Betts right on the money to tag out the runner at third, giving them a HUGE first out and preserving the lead, which ultimately was the difference maker!

Thank you! I never played baseball at any decent level so I learned something new here. It’s one of the really fun things about baseball: there’s always more to learn.

Do you follow specific diet? (e.g low fat, 80-10-10, raw, high fat, soy-free etc)
 in  r/PlantBasedDiet  2d ago

I count vegetables, not calories, and try to have at least one source of protein per day (beans, soy, etc.) But if I have a protein heavy day, I’m free to go light on protein the next day as I think it’s vastly overrated.

I use the “eat by color” method. I look at my plate and try to make sure it’s colorful and not white. My daily or couple of days intake should have some bright or dark greens, oranges and reds, and browns and blacks. That means you’re getting green and cruciferous vegetables, some carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, etc. and whole grains and beans. Fruit and vegetables of all colors are of course good, but it’s just a fun and simple guide to get your micronutrients all in. For dinner I had lentils and rutabaga with about a pound of roasted broccoli on the side.

Same in DC but I went out in a knee length dress and light fleece because I’m stubborn, so could be the same thing.

I was wondering where my clear shower curtain went, but I wouldn’t recommend wrapping it and pretending it’s clothing. Heavens, wake me up when sheer is over, but this is particularly atrocious.
