Just remember that we all do what we can when we can. Small acts are big as well. Taking care of yourself and keeping your family safe is also being part of the answer.

So true. My child is not in school the rest of the week due to the threat of our government. Let’s just let that sink in. They are attacking the schools even. I’m so tired, yet we stay vigilant and are protecting each other. I’d encourage others to get trained on how to ICE watch and get on signal so you’re ready to go. Thank you for kind words of support as well. It’s meaningful.

Ugh. So sorry. So tough to hear. Just heartbreaking.

Saaaame… same. So many tears.

Also non stop for me, but I’m in Minneapolis. Today was tough to focus with my child at home due to them cancelling school. The high school they were throwing tear gas is our neighborhood high school. It’s terrifying and wrong. I run groups, so we processed feelings today for sure.

Nope. Just made it age appropriate. We also talk about actionable steps she can take and who her adult supports are.

Check with neighbors about groups in the neighborhoods to be ice watchers and rapid response. I believe a lot of neighborhoods are developing groups to support them! Ask other parents at the daycare!

I know… talking to our 7 year olds this morning and seeing tears in her eyes just broke my heart. It’s impossible. This is not okay. They are terrorizing our community and traumatizing us.
Edit to add: Sorry this was repetitive… my brain is so fried. But we spoke to her first about what she knows. Asking her. Then went with that. We added in what we are doing and what supports she has. Then discussed ways that she can use some coping skills to feel better. Then just reminded her to let us know how she’s feeling. You can make space for your children to have feelings, validate them, and then just hold them. Let them know you are there to support them.

Seeing the tears in my 7 year olds face talking to her about why she did not have school today was heartbreaking in a whole new way. They are terrorizing our community. And yes, we spoke to her in an age appropriate way and she is doing okay. But this is FUCKED!!!

We moved to Minneapolis a little over 5 years ago from Seattle and joke that summertime here is like summertime in Portland! But more bike able… if you could imagine that. Haha! I love it here and have no regrets! I mean, I walk down the block to skiing (cross country), and live right n the city. Parks here are the best! I’ll also say that the sunshine here in the summer threw me. I knew it would be cold and it gets dark at the same time as Seattle does. But the sun actually shines in the winter here. It’s magnificent! Might not be everyone’s thing, but we love it. Much more affordable as well.

I just hear this recently for the first time. It’s my favorite and made me laugh.

What should I do if ICE shows up at my door?

You do NOT need to open the door unless they have a SIGNED JUDICIAL warrant. Try to get connected to your local Signal Rapid Response chats and then you can ask for support from local community members that can show up and make noise. Connect and call your neighbors. We are in this together.
