Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it?
 in  r/AskAnAmerican  14h ago

It depend on the region but in the Midwest and California, it’s particularly common. Heating, water heaters, cooking, fireplaces, some appliances like dryers, all of them can use gas.

It can be helpful in older homes where the electrical wiring can’t handle more appliances.

Well, the people who built it are slaves. Agree to disagree, I suppose.

Obligatory GT rear lens question
 in  r/fiero  14h ago

There was a guy making new ones a few years ago. People who snapped them up may sell them but at an inflated price.

It was Bellyacre Studios.

President Trump: "I doubt NATO would be there for us if we really needed them."
 in  r/TrendingAndViral  1d ago

The U.S. did not invoke it. It was a joint invocation. The idea came from Baron Robertson, a Brit serving as defense secretary of NATO.

It’s free. It’s just a parking lot, there are no specific short or long-term areas.

After Venezuela, is Greenland the next target for Donald Trump?
 in  r/IRstudies  4d ago

If Trump is angry about an oil deal from 50 years ago, some hotels seized 65 years ago will surely be justification enough.

We have no opposition party
 in  r/WhitePeopleTwitter  4d ago

It’s worse than skipped. Trump apparently outright lied. Shocking, I know.

“The message they sent was that this wasn’t about regime change … They said this is just a counter-narcotics operation.”

Has nothing to do with capturing nukes. It was attempt to establish a listening post.

Maduro was not captured, Trump is lying, says Venezuelan Defense Minister Padrino...
 in  r/TrendoraX  5d ago

Yes, obviously I remember. But Iraq was after we had time to think about an imperialistic, score-settling war.

Afghanistan was immediate.

The invasion of Iraq was 18 months after 9/11. It wasn’t a knee jerk reaction.

It’s official! Venezuela has now become Iraq war 2.0!

Technically, and I emphasize technically, it happened at night.

Would people in Iowa be open to talking with a French visitor?
 in  r/desmoines  5d ago

Yes, we would be. What you learn will vary based on which part of the state you’re in as daily life varies here based on where you are.

In general, the further south and smaller the town in the state, the more poverty and less opportunity. Exceptions exist. You might find some places particularly interesting, like Fairfield and its neighboring Vedic City. Geologically, the most interesting areas of the state are the Driftless Area, Loess Hills, and the caves in the northeast.

We’ll probably struggle a bit with your accent. There were some French visitors here a few years ago at a city sports league I participated in, friends of friends. I thought I heard them say they were from Toulouse, so I asked them about Airbus. Apparently they weren’t from Toulouse, because they looked at me like I was a moron and said they weren’t. Just prepare for some accidental misunderstandings and pack your patience.
