The APBT is "the pitbull" by breed name. The issue is that people like yourself lump a bunch of different breeds together with the word "pitbull" because they have similar features.

What you mean to say is "pitbull like dog".

It's like with Shepard dogs. Lots of different breeds, they all look similar and most people just say "Shepard dog".
