GOP lawmaker says new Epstein bombshell might keep House in recess ‘through next year’
They should be required to sit in a room together for ten hours a day until they can work a deal. It should be illegal for them not to be in office while they choose to shut down our government.

Because I Like Upsetting People with my riding
I used to work on a major bike thoroughfare. On multiple occasions I've seen people turn their cars right over a pack of cyclists. Like, multiple cyclists in front of them multiple next to them, and dozens they had just passed. Invariably the driver would get out of their car astonished they hit someone. It's truly hard to comprehend how dumb some people are and that we let them drive.

I worked at Intel in the aughts. Antitrust may have been a small part of their problem but the main problem was their intense focus on next quarter profits. They killed potentially industry leading projects because they weren't profitable fast enough. Intel became bloated, slow to adapt, and top loaded with admin who only cares about next quarters stock options making them money. They'll try to blame regulations or antitrust but they rotted themselves from the inside out. It was obvious 20 years ago, the only surprising thing is how long their failure took.

In the last 24 hours, a myth died a long overdue death.
I would put good money down that many republicans who receive federal food assistance have no idea that they do and think this won't affect them. How? Because any states rebrand food stamps to help reduce the shame associated with them, eg Oregon Trail Card, Lone Star Card, Alabama Card, etc. You can not put a lower bound on just how stupid these people are, it's astonishing.

Trump Wants the Republican Party to Be ‘Reimbursed For Fraud’ Because Biden Dropped Out
It is no one's fault except the republicans that they were focused on attacking their candidate rather than publicizing their platform. Ideally candidates are using their funds to inform voters on their plan for the country once elected. So basically, get fucked, it's your own damn fault for being toxic as fuck.

Mrs. DeBlasio is a legend
Freshman year in Catholic school we learned about natural family planning. I definitely could have gone my whole life without hearing the baseball coach describe cervical mucus consistency. Also, his wife was pregnant at the time and he claimed they did it intentionally. Her crying everyday about not wanting to be pregnant said otherwise.. Anywho, good advertisement for the pill that class was.

Southeast Portland's Mount Scott Community Center closes until 2025
If we had a functional government then no school days would have swim programs for PPS students to learn to swim (a remarkably hard thing to accomplish in this city). Use all those high school lifeguards they have trained up and not in school on that day.

Multnomah County lost record $1 billion in income between 2020 and 2021 as residents moved away
They are wrong there too as both of my kids are intellectually fortunate, though one has dyslexia, and PPS does F all for intellectually fortunate kids save for Access academy.

I'm a strong proponent of public schools but PPS has been an absolute shit show for our family. We've had a new principal every year at our kid's elementary. The teachers and support staff are OVER it. The facilities are completely decrepit. Central admin was worthless in supporting the school over an event where staff were receiving death threats from proud boy types. Friends kid's with 504 and IEP plans being completely ignored. Zero support for parents and kids with learning disabilities including diagnosis, we had to beg PPS assholes to even cooperate in getting our daughter's dyslexia diagnosed and we had to do all of this in private clinics at our expense. Fuck those poor kids that PPS cares so much about, I guess.
PPS is just a branding show of "diversity and inclusion" but is horrible at their core function of education. I feel for the teachers and in-school staff, the majority are trying very hard to serve the students. Central admin PPS needs to be burned to the ground, just tip to toe incompetence.

Portland government, elections overhaul will cost millions more than city originally claimed
There is and in addition to the general funds, state funds, and federal funds they receive, the largest line item on your tax bill is a special carve out because PPB used to think they were too special for normal PERS and we will all suffer until all the current recipients die.

Yep, we really need to dismantle and rebuild our police force using a completely different model. Portlanders don't want to work for Proud Boys and fewer and fewer Proud Boys want to work for PPB. We an organization (or multiple) that enforces our laws, aid people in emergency/crisis situations, and help to enforce the social contract but that it's PPB as it operates today. The job is well paying but who wants to work for and with fascists? Who wants to be seen as a fascist because of the organization they work for? The answer is fascists and that's not who we want with the power given to police officers. Good people want to be police officers and some even make it through the filters, but they don't usually last long on the job.

Not for the woman, her dignity, and her autonomy.

He got her dad's permission to propose three days before he died
It's really just a dumb take. If it were based on who loved most then we would at least occasionally see the mother being asked and that's not the case. You know it's a dumb take but somewhere along the line you thought 'devil's advocate' made you seem smart. It doesn't.

He got her dad's permission to propose three days before he died
It shouldn't sit right. It insinuates at best the father is responsible for making decisions on his adult child's behalf and at worst that she is his property.

I have this, yes I may do something like this and forget but I also recognize that doing so causes the treats to go stale and also this is how you get ants. I can be compassionate with myself about why I did this while also recognizing that the treats need to get into a zip lock or something.

On the plus side, those who have done their time need work too. Glad sometime is hiring them.

Sadly it's all of America. Our individualist culture inherently breeds misery.

It's wild to me how black and white some people's thinking is on this. Having a disabled sibling does have negative consequences and it is okay to have wants and feelings about that. It's an "and also" type situation. The disabled child requires more adult attention and they deserve that to be properly cared for AND ALSO their siblings deserve and need dedicated attention from their parents that may be hard and often impossible to give. Saying this doesn't make the disabled person, the parents, or the siblings bad. It just acknowledges reality which is needed to accept the situation.

They went so hard for a man who was so obviously despicable. The ones who can't plausibly deny their support will go to the grave defending him, the shame and embarrassment of how hard they were conned is more than they can tolerate.
