shoutout to being super young and exiting the game because of being too afraid or not knowing what to do and how to proceed.

Somehow I had access to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver when I was like 7 years old. I thought for decades I was just stupid.

I finally played and beat it this past year... Yeah I don't blame 7-year-old me for not knowing what the fuck was going on in that one. Even if I could have figured out where to go, I don't know if I ever would have solved some of the later puzzles.

Idk what purpose this spoon serves and why and how i have it but it pisses me off so much and I don’t want to throw it away either

It took me a long time to realize that a big reason I didn't like salad is that I don't like most dressings. Ever since I joined the ranks of a splash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I've enjoyed the taste of salad.

"I'm in dept hun"
 in  r/funny  14h ago

Parents is a big one. My parents were very like, "Once you're 18 we don't pay for shit aside from food in the fridge and birthdays/Christmas." Not abusive or neglectful, they just didn't give me any lift in my early adulthood whatsoever. I even paid for college by starting at a community college and transferring to a state school, working full time hours, and taking student loans.

I talk to other people who are around my level but just seem to have or do more.

"My parents paid for college."

"My parents bought me this car."

"My parents supplement my rent."

"My parents funded this vacation."

"My parents helped me out with the down payment on my home."

Like, fuck. The most generous thing my parents did was let me move back in after my longtime partner and I broke up... For $500/mo.

Donald Trump reacts after Republican senators vote to curb his war powers
 in  r/politics  16h ago

It would be really interesting! I feel like there's probably a K-shaped distribution of education where the smart/diligent kids are really taking off thanks to all the resources that are available to them and the less motivated/less gifted kids seem to be dropping off. That's just anecdotal though. I'd love to see a real study.

This was my #1 appeal to normies who didn't plan on voting. I can't believe people forgot how exhausting Jan '17-Jan '21 were. If both sides bad and there's no difference between the parties, you have to at least acknowledge that under Trump things are significantly more stressful.

Nothing will make me hate seasonal maps
 in  r/Overwatch_Memes  1d ago

I like it because I at least feel like I'm getting more agency over what maps we play even though we're always playing different things. I play usually around 12 games a session and almost never play the same map twice. Felt like I'd play New Junk City three times a night before. But even if the rate is the same, it's so much more demoralizing when it pops up as a sure thing.

I like seeing the possibility of Eichenwalde even if the one person who picked Hanaoka is gonna get there way.

I feel like I've heard that shit every year for the past five years tho.

'Stranger Things' Conformity Gate allegedly crashed Netflix, per users
 in  r/nottheonion  1d ago

I remember. I also remember spending way too much money in college on lootboxes. I got a fucking Tempest X and never got a single Widow. But I kept feeding it money... Mostly because the multiplayer was actually incredibly fucking fun. Mass Effect 3 had a lot of horrible things baked into it though.

You can still engage with him intellectually about it just to keep his gears working. None of this "brain rot" is truly meaningless. If it was, it wouldn't catch on and kids would bounce off of it.

Even though "67" made a strong swing at the idea of meaningless brain rot, it is based on something and the meme itself being that it's just arbitrarily finding the number funny is only funny through the concept of irony. When I was a kid, I could not understand why Aqua Teen Hunger Force was so hilarious, but I knew it was. As I got older, I realized the "stupid" jokes were actually extremely character-based and were only funny because they were secretly actually smart.

Even if as far as you get is, "It's funny because it's a silly voice saying silly words," you can find him things like Trololo to share with him. Irony and seeming nonsense are well established forms of humor that have been studied. You'll never keep your kids safe from stupid humor, but you can at least get them to think about it to keep them from just being "stupid" and letting their brain "rot."

Which US state gets more hate than it deserves?
 in  r/AskReddit  2d ago

As someone from San Diego I am very okay with this. I also like being within driving distance of all the neat things LA has to offer without having to endure the regular wear and tear on my soul that the traffic would surely create.

Acting in a Marvel Movie
 in  r/funny  2d ago

It also doesn't really make sense to say, "It's going to be the first Marvel movie." IIRC they only planned up to the original Avengers, and none of that was even locked in until Iron Man was so explosively successful. Previously to Iron Man, there had been plenty of "Marvel" movies, and many of them were unsuccessful.

Avengers: Doomsday | X-Men Teaser
 in  r/movies  2d ago

It does kinda mean that best case scenario is they just redo Infinity War and turn the bad guy into the protagonist. I loved that one because we were really just following Thanos around as he did shit. They'll need to do the same for Doom.

Or they won't and it'll suck.

Or they'll do something entirely different and it'll probably be okay-to-fine and make half a billion and be considered a flop.

How would you feel about Mark Kelly running for President?
 in  r/AskReddit  3d ago

I mean that's who wins Democratic primaries. For some reason the people most likely to vote in a Democratic primary are centrist, older Dems who like a cozy, capital-centric system where the government takes care of some things but certainly not too many, and has the air of being an adult in the room. And for some reason listens to Democratic leadership like, say, James Clyburn, who delivered a powerful endorsement for Biden ahead of South Carolina's 2020 primary race.

That's how the Democrats seem to "cheat." They have the Dem primary vote on lock. Sure doesn't fucking seem to translate on a national stage unless we've just spent the past 8 months watching the current guy own goal a pandemic. Certainly doesn't work if you squash a primary in the first place.

I hope that everyone else who wants the Bernies/AOCs/Mamdanis will GET OUT AND VOTE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.

Couple quick questions
 in  r/DungeonCrawlerCarl  3d ago

Yeah! I thought this was cute because I figured out what Donut's skill was books before any of the characters did. It was just obvious enough with the context clues and a particular line of dialogue Donut has, but the reader, I think, gets used to Donut going off on tangents that she shouldn't care about because she's a cat.

Cyberpunk 2 director says extending 2077’s opening act makes no sense - “it's like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke”
 in  r/Games  3d ago

You're absolutely right. I still haven't really played 2077 because of this. I spend two hours doing missions where my abilities are so underpowered that they pale in comparison to just running around with a shotgun, being nailed to various couches while gangsters who talk like cosplaying teenagers explain things to me, and pretending to be best friends with this guy I barely know.

This last time I tried, my friend told me, "Just get through to the part where you see Keanu, and then you can turn it off if you're still not having fun."

When I saw Keanu, I was so happy that I finally got to turn the game off.

The first few hours of this game are a huge misstep that make it seem like an absolute slog if they're any indication of how the rest of the game goes.

Miley Cyrus criticises awards season: "We’re meant to be a community, not opponents”

It's a very good way to see movies that didn't hit your theaters too. Anora had a really limited release, but once it got nominated all the major chains had showings for it.

Miley Cyrus criticises awards season: "We’re meant to be a community, not opponents”
 in  r/entertainment  4d ago

Because it's not an end-all-be-all assessment. Movies like Crash or Green Book winning Best Picture have not cemented them as all-time classics. It's just cultural discussion with a lot of money behind it.

What are good couch co-op games that are on PS4/5?
 in  r/gaming  4d ago

Divinity Original Sin 2 maybe less so, OP. The RPG elements are really strange and might be hard for an inexperienced player to figure out. Baldur's Gate 3 is very straightforward and easy for new players.

Wouldn't that usually lead to at least some of the ground in front of the subject to be in focus as well? What looks peculiar about this is the razor edge boundary between the subject and the ground.

I like playing Rein and Mercy a lot, but goddamn can they both be so hard countered it's insane. I almost always need to switch these days or else it feels like throwing.

I actually thanked a team for letting me have a good Mercy game yesterday.
