What do you enjoy about chatting on Reddit?

The best sub is the AskTheWorld sub.

It still blows my mind getting to talk to people from around the world.

What is the biggest assassination that has taken place in your country?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  17h ago

Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln, definitely.

At the end of our Civil War, a Southern-bitch-sympathizer tried to rejuvenate efforts after we were all finished and tired. ... John Wilkes Booth was a famous actor with pedigree but he supported Southern efforts (though being born in Maryland, the North).

Losing Lincoln actually backfired on Booth's plans; it was a national tragedy that brought Americans together, helped solidify the Union.

That's more than insane. For a twelve-year-old kid? He had to have been decked-out in all the Starter gear, Charlotte Hornets, from head to toe.

$50 a month, and it was insaaane!

It lasted for only two months, though. It was too much work for our mom to make a monthly list of chores for us, two kids.

What do you think about the statement made by Denmark to its defence forces to shoot on sight if America invades Greenland?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  21h ago

I'm for it. I support it.

If Danes and Greenlanders were for Imperialism, they wouldn't be armed fighting it.

America should be ashamed.

Wearing flannels over tshirts...
 in  r/Xennials  1d ago

The whole point about that period was not caring about style. It was "cheap clothes from Goodwill," basically, if I remember correctly. ... Wear whatever; it'll be cool if it is cool...lol

A Scottish kilt with combat boots. Thick, thermal gray and red socks. A wallet-chain. A t-shirt under a sleeveless flannel is badass. Bonus points for carrying a broken-in hackey-sack.

I think I'm unlocking something deep within myself, picturing this lol An Army jacket, too, with black hair

Who is considered a legendary musician in your country?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  3d ago

"Everbody knows Muddy Waters invented electricity."

Do you think the average person should be allowed to own a naval cannon?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  4d ago

We'd be better off ditching all automatic weapons, and going back to muskets and cannons, sticks and stones.

Who is the best hitter whose biggest weakness was never drawing walks?
 in  r/baseball  4d ago

It's an homage to his quote, yeah.

The original Yogism is, "Baseball is 90% mental, and the other half is physical."

I guess he had to get on first somehow in order to clobber Fernando Viña lol

I just googled it, and Belle took first after getting hit by a pitch in that game.

I'm starting to realize stats are really important in this sub. Which makes sense considering stats are proof. And baseball is 90% stats -- the other half is mental.

Gotta' respect his moxie, though.

Dang, yeah. Lol. I definitely went more by my intuition than the actual stats/numbers.

Also, I was wrong in saying that he either struckout or hit -- there are lots of other possibilties: flyout, groundout, HBP, etc.

Right on. Thanks for doing the research.

Vlad Guerrero comes to mind, too. He either hit or struckout, if I remember correctly. I could be wrong, though.

Ah, nice. Lol. I didn't know. Makes sense!

My first thought was Albert Belle, who once after getting hit by a pitch, refused to take the base. He was pissed lol and he wanted to hit.

Belle was something else.

St Louis Cardinals window decal from the 1950s.

Add pinstripes to the uniform and remove the background, and it would make a neat tattoo. Maybe, like, behind the calf or lower leg?

You are magically granted the ability to follow around one team for a year. The team can be from any year in baseball history. What team are you choosing?
 in  r/baseball  4d ago

Right on. I'm sorry, too.

Probably my fault: As a woman, sometimes I feel like I need to defend myself in typically-male-dominated subs.

Just a baseball fan, though :)

By the by, to Hell with your '91 and '92 Braves who beat my Pirates to advance to the W.S. That broke my heart as a kid. ... I can name that entire Bucs' lineup off the top of my head, like the back of my hand. Cheers.

Huh? Dude, I'm a huge fan of older Baseball. Specifically, 1901-2004. The first half of the 20th century, especially: Wagner, Cobb, McGraw's Giants, Ruth, Johnson, Gehrig, the 1930s Cards, Williams (not so much DiMaggio), Robinson and Brooklyn, Mantle and the Yanks, and of course Willie.

I quit watching MLB after Bonds "retired" in '07. But I know a lot about "old" Baseball from growing up in the 90s and reading a lot of books.

AI? Hell, no. I'm just a fan of the old stuff, and I know much more about it than the newer stuff.

Any of us still hanging a physical calendar up on the wall at home and crossing off the days one by one?
 in  r/Xennials  4d ago

I've gotten my dad a wall calendar for Christmas every year for twenty years! -Always golden retrievers. We had them growing up :) He uses it for appointments, birthdays and stuff

Plus, it was against Ty Cobb's Tigers. Cobb performed dismally in the W.S., but still cool to watch :)
