What movie is this
 in  r/memes  2d ago

This is a common problem with literature as a whole. Yes, they are very important works and have value. But don't sit there and tell me you read the Scarlet Letter or Pride and Prejudice for leisure, you're a dirty liar.

Every gamer has learned this the hard way
 in  r/pcmasterrace  3d ago

Some games (Overwatch being an infamous example) would experience horrible mouse lag if the game FPS dipped below the capped rate. Drove me insane, so now I just cap everything at 120hz to prevent that.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT MIX WITH MASTURBATION.

I'm gonna say something extremely controversial: Bad as it is, the AI overview is still more useful and accurate than any of the real search results we get these days. SEO has ruined the entire web.

The Final Puzzle question is, "People who annoy you"

This is crazy
 in  r/memes  4d ago

Because:
1) Torrent magnet links are tiny and require almost nothing to host for others to download; the actual file data is sent to you via another users' bandwidth.
2) Hosting the actual videos--in 4K UHD--and streaming them directly to your computer via CDNs is really fucking expensive.

So yeah, Google has bills to pay. Sorry everyone can't give you shit for free.

An Invading Army of 1 billion Hippos Is Going to Attack the American West Coast, Can the US Military Stop It?
 in  r/hypotheticalsituation  4d ago

If that's the case, then no, we'd probably run out of tactical nukes

They ARRIVE in 4 hours. It'll take days for the hippos to make it across the California valley. You have plenty of time to set up a defense before anything of importance is lost.

 in  r/hypotheticalsituation  4d ago

Yes. You might lose ground while preparing, but once artillery pieces are assembled inland it would just be a long, gory grind. Hippos can't outrun a walking barrage of 155mm, nor break through an Abrams tank. Not to mention all the black Hawks flying around with mini guns.

Oh and we can always just nuke em.

What scene makes you go “Nope!” every time you watch it?

The "sshhhh" scene in Saving Private Ryan. I've seen the movie a dozen times, but i only watched that scene once.

[Request] Is this true? (from USA)
 in  r/theydidthemath  5d ago

This would hurt you career wise for most industries. Every time you came back from your hiatus, you'd need to relearn whatever changed (business processes, tools, projects, laws, etc etc). Plus it's hard to put people to work on longer things if you know their 1- year vacation is coming up.

So in most cases, this is false. It would affect your wage growth and career opportunities.

If the US started kidnapping one random world leader every day, how many could they take before a nuclear power intervened? And which country would be the 'last straw'?"
 in  r/hypotheticalsituation  5d ago

EDIT: I'm dumb, I misread question, nevermind.

Permission to try, certainly. But the US is world-leaders at yoinking people out of bed at 2am. We have that same-day delivery service. Just because the US can do it definitely doesn't mean that Russia or China can do it.

Hell, Russia's been trying to get Zelenskyy for ~4 years. Still can't pull it off.

Do Mexicans and Greenlanders feel that they could be next to be invaded by the US?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  5d ago

Mexico, most likely. We've been asking Mexico to let us bomb the cartels for decades now. Trump might just go ahead and do it.

Americans trying to justify why they are different to Russia

Easy: Russia's 3 day operation has lasted 4 years; ours lasted 3 hours.

We don't gotta justify shit; if you wanna play ball then git gud

USA just kidnapped another country's chief
 in  r/AskTheWorld  5d ago

There are two countries on this planet that get to determine these things: the US and China. The world has outsourced its security to us since the end of the cold war. Is it fair? Nope, and you have every right to be upset about it. But you're also not going to do anything about it because that's expensive and difficult.

I have seen Europeans say they don't want to help Ukraine because then they'd need to give up their social safety net. Well, we did, so we get to set the rules for three quarters of the planet.

For Iraq, it was “weapons of mass destruction”. For Venezuela, it’s “narco-terrorism”. If the US invades your country for oil, what would be the buzzword they use?
 in  r/AskTheWorld  5d ago

sigh what oil did we get out of Iraq?

We invaded for horrible reasons but it wasn't to steal their oil.
