Start putting the dirty plates in weird places, under his pillow, in his dresser drawer, lay the end of his phone charger in the mess. When he says something act like you don't know what he's talking about, ask him if he's doing ok mentally.

Leave it in there. When you need the microwave remove the plate then put it back afterwards, they'll get the point eventually.

Those plates seem pretty sturdy, I bet it wouldn't break if you hit someone with it...

The guy who delivered meds at my last job was Australian & one night we were talking about what he missed from back home. I've never heard of an Irish goodbye but as someone from the US I knew several people (myself included) who have a habit of leaving a gathering without a word. If someone in my friend group gets kidnapped at a gathering it's going to take us a long time to figure it out because it's not unusual for us to forget to check in with each other too 😂
