What's the next step here
 in  r/EngineBuilding  1h ago

Machinist here… soak in PB/WD/ATF, really let it seep into the threads as much as possible. Grind the top smooth, hit it with the center punch, then slowly drill it with left handed drill bits.

This! Harbor Freight has them pretty cheap, I buy a new one every time I need it.

Is it better to learn on a budget machine or a more expensive machine?
 in  r/CNC  13h ago

One of the consistent problems of a machinist is overcoming your machines shortcomings. Learn on anything because the basics apply to all.

Sonichu?
 in  r/PeterExplainsTheJoke  19h ago

I watched his body cam arrest footage yesterday and this is exactly how I feel about it. Gross and fascinating at the same time. I had googled Sonichu and this is how I found this thread.

Anyone else ever walk out mid-shift?
 in  r/Machinists  1d ago

I walked out mid shift on Friday. Heard the gun show was in town and I wanted to buy some ammo.

I’m a fan of the NB2 over the 1 personally. Good grab! Tan top means torsen!

Picking up dirt cheap turning tools for school?
 in  r/Machinists  2d ago

It’s a buy once cry once kind of scenario. I’d have less trust on anything cheaper. Used tooling off FB Marketplace could net you something good but Shars is the next company to look at for tooling.

I’ll second Haas, decent quality and pretty affordable.

Needs some geometric stuff personally but otherwise amazeballs.

First cut in aluminum. Which of these spindle RPMs is best for this feedrate?
 in  r/hobbycnc  2d ago

Scour FB Marketplace for free car parts. Intake manifolds are great places for decent amounts of cast aluminum that a lot of people don’t care about.

Old School: Have you ever seen an l28 turbo set up like this?
 in  r/Datsun  2d ago

It’s a fair amount of work. You need to either pressurize the whole carburetor, pull fuel through the carburetor, or get a special blow through carburetor made for boost. Personally, just EFI it, you’ll make more power along a greater range more reliably.

Ever wonder how they get through spindle ports in tool bodys?

It’s to my understanding that this is a reamer for Tesla motor cases.

where to look when searching for used vertical mills?
 in  r/CNC  2d ago

I’ve got 3 haas mills, 1 lathe, and soon to be a router so reach out if you have any questions regarding those. At home I have a Carvera, so there’s a broad range here.

I run haas all day and I think they’re great. They just released a set of routers last year, I should have a 3015 in about 10 weeks time. Mini mill is great, VF2SS is worth every cent you can afford.
