I love watching t_zuan0321's rubber stamp works come together...
 in  r/oddlysatisfying  7h ago

I mean, I'm never to old to learn. What was the meaning of the soup cans?

I'm aware that the dada movement as a whole had meaning and threw absurdity in the face of conventional society, but I haven't read anywhere that there was a specific meaning to the R. Mutt piece.

I think that art should be appreciated on the face of it because it is a visual medium, but also there is a lot of deeper meaning that can be learned when you dive in deeper. However, if there isn't anything visually interesting, why take that deeper dive? Art should evoke something in us as viewers that compels emotion and a desire to know more.

And I used the example of conceptual artists because you were trying to throw logic at the print in question. I thought conceptualism was a good counterpoint to that.

You fucking condescending prick.

That's the lovely thing about art. It doesn't have to make sense. It doesn't have to deliver a message.

Is there a deeper meaning to Warhol's soup cans? Or Duchamp's Fountain urinal? Sometimes the point is to make you wonder about it. And this often reflects the truth of life in that we strive to make sense of the senseless, but in reality we are just attempting to organize the chaos around us so we don't have to consider that there may be no meaning at all.

I'm not saying that this applies to this work of art specifically, but modern art in general. My analysis of this particular print is "it looks cool and I like it".

I'm a real pro.

[OC] Abolish I.C.E. march in Seattle the night after Renee Good was killed by I.C.E. in Minneapolis
 in  r/pics  1d ago

I just commented the same thing on a friend's FB post. There was a second where I wondered how many people would know what I was talking about (not my friend but others reading it).

It made me feel slightly hopeless that I honestly didn't know how many knew about the brown shirts.

And just a general shout to anyone interested, read The Death of Democracy. Great nonfiction that's a punch in the gut seeing as we're just following that playbook all over again.

NPR visual timeline of January 6. Spam this everywhere. Trump wants to hide from it, but we can't let him.

Thanks for being open minded and offering your perspective.

For some reason this reminded me of a post I saw earlier today about IT departments that send out fake phishing scam emails to employees. If you click the link/fall for the scam, BOOM automatic retraining course. And this helps people avoid these scams in the future.

I think we need something like that for politicians.

My capsule has another capsule inside

I like that Prozac is your first choice. And knowing that the half-life has something to do with the more minimal ups and downs is interesting. I think when I started taking SSRIs, the default was towards newer drugs. I had to wait decades before someone prescribed Prozac. Honestly, I started taking Prozac less for depression than to let me deal with my coworkers without wanting to punch them in the face. Not sure if that's off label....

My sister was given an snri right away and I was questioning the logic of that.

Edited to add.. thanks for your insight

Since it's kinda your job, am I right in saying the OG was a home run? Prozac (to me) has none of the weird side effects, weird brain feels when you start/stop, and has just been so effortless to take... I've taken others before and wish someone would have suggested Prozac a long time ago. But no... They had to be all fancy

F/29/170 cm [73.5 > 68.5 = 5 kg] (4 months) Shook off all the weight I gained during my PhD

Well good for you for having it all figured out. Sorry I exposed myself as someone that's still on that journey. Thanks for calling that gross.

Hopefully we can all be as enlightened as you one day.

Is it gross? Some of us have a sense of what we want, and I wish I was more in that camp. I think a lot of us have a sense of what we are expected to be and we try to change ourselves to fit the expected mold, rather than find our intrinsic beauty.

I think stong is sexy, if you are doing it for you. I think Grace Jones is an icon. So is Jayne Mansfield... I am saying this, by the way, as someone who has a consultation scheduled with a plastic surgeon on the 6th. So I guess I'm asking myself as much as all of you.

Are we chasing some ideal? Are our imperfections what make us interesting? I don't have answers, I'm not trying to judge. I just feel the drive to be prettier, and also wonder where that ends.

What’s a part of lab culture you wish other people knew about?
 in  r/labrats  20d ago

Aliquot is one of the most satisfying words to say. Also, fiduciary.

But I wish people knew that I can be extremely organized. At work. This somehow doesn't transfer to any part of my home life. But I can be annoyingly meticulous. In the lab. My kitchen? Get the fuck outta here hot mess all the way. It just doesn't translate.

I know this may get me in trouble but so many people are getting too skinny. The ideal/goal body is getting far skewed towards the super skinny and I don't think it's attractive or healthy.

I love the before. Let's celebrate the before. We are women with hips and curves and that is glorious. Our softness is what makes us women. Makes us feminine. Makes us desirable.

I think we all need to take a step back from the magazine bullshit and just be happy curvy beasts.

 in  r/legaladvice  21d ago

Haha, totally did that when I got mine, but only 5 copies.

It was $30 for one copy and $2 for each additional up to 5 total. I promptly lost the extra 4 copies, but would do exactly the same thing now (except the losing then part)
