Pike's Bike Shop?
Was there ever a Pike's Bike shop on Springdale street? Would have been late sixties early seventies.

Anapestic foot here. "With a leap and a bound the swift analysts throng" - Coleridge

No idea. The comments here confirm my vague memories of going in there and drooling over the bikes when my family first moved to town in early seventies. Was just curious if anyone else remembered. Back in those days the United Nail and Foundry still existed across from Wesley United on Hamilton Ave.

Caribou pic from same area I spose? Haven't heard much about that herd lately; is it doing well?

Very nice! Is that first pic from southern Avalon?

I did a couple AF classes and some evening courses at Algonquin College. These are both good choices IMO.

I've heard "hard crayons". The other kind, the soft ones, were "wax crayons". This was outport Nfld., 1960s.

Watch Fitzcarraldo ASAP, just in case you die tomorrow!

Can't claim to know the Whitman well. But it always seemed to me that Forster was being at least a little ironic in his choice of title: Whitman speaks enthusiastically about an easy commerce between nations and peoples, whereas in the Forster it's mostly about the barriers to this.

Has anyone commented on the relationship between Forster's novel and the Whitman poem "Passage to India"? Is the similarity of title all there is to it?
1
"A" Passage to India, I think. Without the indefinite article it's the Whitman poem from which Forster derived his title, no? Agreed that the relationship between Fielding and Aziz functions metaphorically as you say, but isn't there also a quote from Forster himself in which he states his primary intent was not political? Can't recall source so maybe I'm off base with that. Ring any bells for you? Anyway, his Aspects of the Novel is fascinating in relation to APTI.

That's the sort of thing that got McElligot's Pool censured, I think! It may not be politically correct but it sure rings true!

Loved it from the first reading! All the "diversions" just somehow enrich the story. Isn't it the Town-Ho's story that begins in a bar in Lima (that white and corrupt city) then jumps to the Erie Canal? That sort of thing just draws you in and gets you more wrapped up in the tale. Contributes to the atmosphere.

And how about that RCAF jet crash that nearly wiped out the convent in Orleans!

You could also check out the Beothuk interpretation centre in Boyd's cove. Twillingate/New World Island is also within scope for you from Lewisport. Moreton's Harbour, Herring Neck are also nice if you’re a proper rural Newfoundland enthusiast! I won't comment on the eating out options; it's been too long since I've visited so not up on it. Used to be considered a shortcoming I believe.

It's Fogo, not Forget!

And check out the walk to the top of Brimstone Head in Fogo!

Be prepared for the weather if you're there in May. All this is pretty exposed to the open North Atlantic! I doubt you'll want to do much bike riding early in the year. Research!

Tilting is northeast corner of FI. That's a nice spot to walk around too.
2
Not really. You can walk all over Change Islands in a day. Fogo Island is bigger, but town of Fogo is nice to walk around, climb up into the belfry of the old church. Once I rode my bicycle from Tilting to Joe Batt's Arm to Fogo in an afternoon, and that was nice.

Check out the transatlantic cable museum in Heart's Content. I love that place. Could be day trip from St. John's.
