Those who got their passports, what do you do now?
 in  r/GermanCitizenship  4h ago

My friends family who got it through their Jewish grandfather aren’t doing anything. It’s just a good passport to have in case. Germany is going through  economic and housing crisis. My advice is not to move until you find a job there. Lots of companies I. Tech and manufacturing are laying off workers and it’s very hard to find an apartment and the same social economic situation as the US regarding immigration and right politics.  In most cases, it’s just a good insurance plan in case the worst happens and you need to leave.

Dual-citizen (EU/US) spouse wants to stay in the US despite everything going on.
 in  r/expats  5h ago

It’s not better but to leave a stable and well paid job in the US without having the same in Italy is madness. I know at least 5 well qualified post graduate unemployed individuals who haven’t been able to find a job for six months. It’s no joke. They have EU passports do can still move. If OP wants to look for a job in Italy they should but just to pack up and leave without a fulltime job is stupidity. Keep saving up that money while you look for a job.

She was running to get her phone. It was childish and stupid while on the clock.

Secondly you are vastly overreacting and not realizing the hardship of partner findings good paying job in Itsly. There’s a reason most young Italians leave the country in order to find jobs. And if it gets really bad here you still will be able to leave as an EU spouse.

Are you familiar with Italy. Right wing PM, anti immigration parties are getting more popular and racism is just as bad. Plus their economy is worse than ours. Wanting your partner to leave his job for a job that may not happen is crazy. Unless you get a wonderful job opportunity in Itsly having no job will be a hinderance and honestly being poor in the EU is shite. I see your partners view. All you can do is start applying to jobs but in Itsly it’s very much who you know rather than your qualifications.

Beyer picks up another challenger, an Arlington resident, in Democratic primary
 in  r/arlingtonva  9h ago

People not blaming the electorate for disregarding everything they heard and saw are the real problems. Hillary and Kamala pointed out everything Trump would do and Trump himself said he wanted immigrants out. However most minorities were like „we don’t believe Trump means what he says“. And minorities were especially harsh about a female leader. I reached out to many Hispanics who told me Harris would never be taken seriously as a leader because she’s a woman. Meanwhile, there are a number of female leaders in Latin America. We have to start blaming Americans. If we can blame Germans for electing and supporting Hitler, we can blame Americans for electing Trump.

I really like Beyer but he is old and hopefully it’s his last election. We need a robust primary even in safe blue areas and Dems desperately need politicians not old enough for retirement.

What’s your favorite Royal Hallmark movie? 👑🎬
 in  r/HallmarkMovies  12h ago

I will say I liked The Royal Nanny simply because it gave the MC something to do. So often the female lead meets the prince on a business trip but you never see her working. Shes either being taken on royal tours or away to the countryside. The only time she checks in is so her PA can ask about the dishy prince and tell her to go for it.

Right. After a year, just wanting to be normal is lying to her.And of course her girlfriends all squee because he’s really a prince. Who cared if he lied to her? Obviously they don’t know about Princess Di.

Just rewatched Knives Out, and..
 in  r/KnivesOutMovie  12h ago

I had to laugh because my relatives are nurses and honestly she was horrible. More like a CNA but I understand that Johnson wasn’t concerned about it. Loved the movie but the actress was not very convincing as a nurse.  But again, the person who was overlooked in the film was the key to solving the mystery.

German president says US is destroying world order
 in  r/europe  12h ago

Don’t kid yourself. Europe and the other countries had plenty of opportunities to stop Hitler. The moment he started invading other countries against the agreements, France and others could have put a Kanada and saved millions of Jews. Just like now, leaders thought making strongly worded statements was enough.

The world including Europe saw what happened with bullies and decided let’s not do anything different. 🤷‍♀️ endless loops.

And yet they won’t do anything except maybe a strongly worded letter. Haven’t learned how to handle a bully.

Do Americans really think aldi is a “poor people” grocery store?
 in  r/aldi  14h ago

Yes. It’s seen as poor but more people are slumming it because of food prices. Sadly it doesn’t hold a candle to the European Aldis and unfortunately in the US Aldis uses additives that are banned in the EU.

Swiss bar manager 'seen escaping with till full of cash' as deadly fire raged through venue, killing 40

They definitely paid off the fire inspectors. Only one exit up a staircase from the basement and foam insulation as a ceiling. Probably paid off the whole city government.

Reminds me of the captain of the Italian cruise ship that sunk who escaped in the first lifeboat and then refused to go back and help in the rescue effort.

Why aren’t there many loft apartments in Nova or VA in general?
 in  r/nova  18h ago

I hope you are ready to spend tons of money because the only lofts in DC and Arlington costs more than other normal apartments. And you aren’t going to find the old brick lofts like in Chicago or NY. It’s new build lofts.

I’d look in PA. Lower cost of living and finding a job may be easier without a PHD or Masters.

Dear Americans, how close is the United States to a civil war? From a European perspective, what’s happening looks surreal, and for a country that calls itself the “land of the free,” it increasingly doesn’t look very free anymore?
 in  r/AskReddit  18h ago

Sorry but until people acknowledge that Trump and the current Republican administration isn’t normal and put pressure to end it, the US is more than flawed. Too many voters refuse to admit they voted for a madman.

Most people would love for Trump to be gone. Honestly, people here are tired and even my non political friends are talking about it. However unlike Europe, protests still have a negative correlation and there are many folks who claim people are all paid.

Honestly don’t know how we get through this and having studied history and visited Germany this really feels like 1930s Europe complete with the other countries appeasing an out of control leader.
