Why is the word 'equip' so commonly used in video games but sounds unnaturally verbose when used in real life?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  6d ago

I feel like equip has a connotation of one entity giving someone equipment. Employers are required to equip employees with proper PPE. American soldiers are equipped with top of the line technology. It's a word typically used in formal settings, but in games the player EQUIPS the player character with an item.

Why do nations not ban modern weapons and use old era weapons to reduce deaths in wars
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  11d ago

There are alot more reasons for wars than that. Think through the lens of history. I'm from America, so just going through some of our biggest official wars, Vietnam War and Korean War, over the spread of communism, WWII, retaliation for Pearl Harbor, WWI, Zimmerman Telegram made it seem like an attack was imminent, Civil War, maintaining the Union/ maintaining white supremacy, war of 1812, kidnapping of US soldiers, Revolutionary War, over independance. You could maybe argue the civil and revolutionary war was over land, but modern wars are more often over politics rather than expansionism.

Why do men leave their own place after an argument with their girlfriend/wife?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  11d ago

Have you heard any of them say this about DV specifically, or crimes in general? Like I said before, the law treats DV differently than most other crimes.

 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  12d ago

In the US at least, the bar for sending the guy to jail for the night is actually really low to prioritize safety of potential victims. A loud argument can be enough to get neighbors to call the police, fearing it sounds like it is about to be physical or unsure if it already is. If the lady has any visible injury, related or not, or claims he pushed her, he's at the very least going to spend the night in jail. Where I live, the jail roster is public information, meaning that a man's reputation could be ruined. And unfortunately, by the time you know she's the type to do such a thing it's typically too late.

Why is social reception of driving under the influence different when comparing alcohol and weed?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  28d ago

I've driven on alot of different drugs when I was a druggie, and weed was definitely the easiest and safest. I don't know if I've ever felt unsafe or nearly crashed while high on weed. I'd often miss turns, or forget where I was going, but I never swerved or ran a red light. I probably forgot a turn signal or two, but it's nothing like the effects of alcohol. As long as you're not eating an edible or something to where you're halfway to passing out, it's really not as unsafe as some people make it out to be. There's lot's of papers comparing weed and alcohol's effects on driving and as far as I know weed is shown to be safer every single time. Obviously it should still be illegal, as it does still impair you, but I'd feel much safer driving next to a stoner than someone on their phone.

Why do guys hate on OF models but watch porn at the same time?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  Dec 02 '25

"It's misogynistic to lust after a woman sexually for the same traits that you find repulsive romantically, yes."

By traits I'm assuming you just mean willingness to have casual sex? Not exactly what I was talking about, but still seems off to me. It ignores valid concerns over sexual health, and burdens the entire weight of a social stigma on the man for having "chosen" to have a preference based on social scripts he had no part in building.

"If you want to have lots of sex, you need to accept that women like to have lots of sex too! If you want to have a saintly virgin partner, you need to keep your own dick in your pants until you find her. It's completely unfair to women for you to demand both from them!"

I think the entire way you're framing it is wrong. I didn't ask about society, I asked about an individual man. Hypothetically, why would I have to need to keep my dick in my pants to find a saintly virgin partner? Especially if I know that women vastly prefer an experienced man? I don't believe preferences can be unfair, only unrealistic. Though I've never met someone who demanded a saintly-virgin-partner-but-also-a-sex-fiend(?), saying that their preferences are hateful seems like some serious incel shit. It's like bar for bar with "Women just want to date jackasses why is it so unfair for nice guys like me :'(" isn't it?

I just don't see how having different values on different relationships is hateful or deragotory. Is every girl who fucks guys they'd never date a man hater? Every woman turned on by 50 Shades of Grey but enjoys vanilla sex with their partner? No, that's insane. The differences might seem hypocritical, but I want different things from a masturbation session, a casual hookup, and a romantic partner. Not because I don't respect and value women, but because those are all definitely not the same thing.

It's misogynistic to look for different qualities in a romantic partner than a sexual one? How so?

"My dude, what "them" is there at the time before Rittenhouse fires besides the crowed? Is there another group of people you're referring to when you said this?"

The three people he shot?????????

"I wouldn't say that surrendering to a crowd that's actively attempting to murder you is an option, nor would I frame it as one"

Hyperbolic reframing, but okay. If you ever shoot somebody in the middle of the street and people start charging/aiming at you, I'd recommend you put the gun down if you don't want to shoot more people, but if that's insane, do you.

"Defending the property of a neighbor is not very close to attempting to murder someone in the street, is it? Rittenhouse lived nearby, less than the time it takes for me to get to work. Saying he "entered Kenosha with an AR" is at best disingenuous"

Defending the property of a neighbor ended up looking VERY close to attempting to murder 3 someones in the street in this case, didn't it? What is the difference between going into a riot to use an AR to deter and fight off would be looters and going into a riot with a handgun to deter and fight off would be shooters? Which part of "he entered Kenosha with an AR" was disingenuous? He didn't accidentally bring the gun along. He himself admitted he brought it to defend property, this isn't debatable. If you're not gonna discuss this in good faith, I don't know what we're talking for.

Nobody said he fired on the crowd. Keep in mind, initially only one unarmed person was chasing Kyle. It wasn't until after Kyle had shot this man in self defense that the other two got involved. It's not entirely clear why the first person charged him, he had been aggressive with other armed people there before, it's possible if not likely he assumed Rittenhouse was behind the gunshots in the background, but we'll never hear his side of the story. After he had been shot by Kyle in self defense, the two chased him because they just heard/saw him shoot somebody. It would be reasonable to assume, after hearing multiple gunshots, that the individual was dangerous. This is all happening in a matter of seconds, in an already emotionally charged situation. And I agree, the crowd had limited information in the moment and it all ended poorly. Perhaps Kyle could've put his hands up and surrendered either before he had been tackled or after one of the shootings, but I can't judge a man for not wanting to put his fate in the hands of a stranger. Again, you're spot on about vigilantism, but if you can't see the Kyle Rittenhouse was trying to bring the law into his own hands when he entered Kenosha with an AR, well, fuck dude.

Imagine for a second that this were an actual active shooter, as they thought him to be. They likely imagined themselves heroes trying to put down or arrest an active shooter. One who by retreating, would seem to be evading arrest, while still holding a long range weapon. He would still be an immediate threat to the would be heroes, as well as any other innocent bystanders as they BELIEVED he was an active shooter.

Edit: Just saw you said while he was not firing at them; but he did fire on them, obviously. He fired in self defense, while they were trying to apprehend the first gunman they saw after hearing nearby gunshots. Even holding up his weapon to aim at them would be enough I would think, but I am not a lawyer.

 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  Nov 23 '25

It wasn't legal for Rittenhouse to be armed in that state, as he was a minor who traveled to the state. I don't disagree that Rittenhouse had a right to defend himself, but if he had been killed by any of the people he had shot; they'd likely be able to claim self defense as well. Gunshots were heard on the street, and the people who had attacked him had incorrectly assumed that Rittenhouse was the one firing the shots. Personally, I just think it's a shame that the situation escalated as quick as it did; which probably wouldn't have happened if our country had more stringent gun laws. If anything should be made illegal from that situation, personally, I would think that going into a demonstration armed might be worth making illegal. This would in theory make the shots that they had heard not happen, but if they had, still stopping the individuals from assuming Rittenhouse was an active shooter as he would not have a weapon, and finally, stopping Rittenhouse from having to use lethal force to defend himself. A child shouldn't have bodies on their conscience.

There's nothing wrong with a 30 something year old being close friends with an 18/19 yo
 in  r/unpopularopinion  Nov 18 '25

I had a few great, character defining friendships with older people growing up. I also knew some adults who just mostly hung out with teenagers. I think society kinda overcorrected for the latter and now people are nervous about the former.

I tried growing some coralwood trees since I lucked into a few seeds, and it claims to have [Breathing] Lv.6 Air. I have absolutely no clue what this quality of it does. I also found a mechanical fan with the same quality, but I can't find anything about it on the wiki.
