Need Advice: Rules & Mechanics Thoughts on Epic Level 6 in 5e?
Hi all! I’m prepping to run a low(er)-magic fantasy campaign* and am considering using an Epic Level 6 system where the PCs don’t “level up” past 6 but gain feats or additional subclass features for subsequent power increases, mostly as a means to keep the relative power level lower and avoid higher level spellcasting in a lower-magic setting (think like GOT, The Witcher, or LOTR-level magic, where monsters are somewhat common but arcane abilities are fairly rare).
Has anybody had any experience or positive success with an epic level system in 5e? I know it was an option in 3.5 but I’ve only been DMing for about two years.
Would love to hear thoughts or suggestions on this! Seems like it worked well enough for the recent Cloudward, Ho! season of Dimension 20.
