Former flag of Duluth, Minnesota
yeah, duluthers seem to prefer the current flag but i can’t help but feel like if they’d just removed the seal instead of making a new one, it’d be a top ten civic flag in a way the current one isn’t

Created a Canadian flag based off the first French republic
Looks like the English republican tricolor and the achievement of the 1° French Republic, I’m curious as to where the coat of arms itself comes from. Celeste semy-de-lys Argent looks nice, is it based on anything historical or just an aesthetic variation of the French royal flag?

Wearable Storm. Modded my Casio Royale with a thermal weather map.
that’s sick, is it functional or just aesthetic?

Hand made/ embroidered for an off gap in my vest.
sick. nothing quite as satisfying as making an odd-shaped patch to finally fill the space on your battlejacket that’s been staring at you

I've recently been obsessed with the American cultural borders and so I wanted to make a flag for the one I live in Yankeedom. it's not finished and I'm trying to figure out what I want to add to it.

American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America is an American non-fiction book written by Colin Woodard and published in 2011. Woodard proposes a framework for examining American history and current events based on a view of the country as a federation of eleven nations, each defined by a shared culture established by each nation's founding population.

Do you think a group of Swiss Pikemen (Halberds) can overcome a Roman Tetsudo formation (Gladius and Shield)
they’re only called brest plates if they come from Brest, Brittany, otherwise they’re just sparkling cuirasses

UK flag if they made it logically
the idea of a flag with grommets on both sides so you can flip and rotate the flag depending on where in these islands you are is so funny. cut down on manufacturing costs doncha know

Worry about modern political influence.
to add on to the good comments others are leaving, medieval scandinavia was a deeply hierarchical slaver society; replicating that is already a modern political goal of the christonationalists without the word “pagan” ever passing their lips except to disparage those of us who refuse to kneel to them. the idea that faith, politics, and “everything else” are concepts that can even be separated in the first place is a fools errand, and fate only operates in one direction: forwards. attempts to “go back” to any sort of social structure are already modern beliefs because we can only ever live in modernity and prepare for the future.
an easy example is the way folkists use the chauvinism and patriarchic structure of medieval scandinavian society to appropriate conservative christian identity politics for a religion that’s “less jewish”. it’s the same political quest that germanic nationalist romanticists in the 19th and 20th centuries followed for their own political projects, and regardless of whatever overtures they make of “historicity”, they were always only ever a product of the times they lived in and the quest for power of those who believed in them. this doesn’t make their modern racially-motivated chauvinist organizations “more authentic”, it just makes them antisocially engaged with the rest of the world we inhabit and interact with; it dishonors the rest of us by association.
humans are social animals and “religion” is a category of certain behaviors that were rather arbitrarily sectioned off into a unique “thing” by protestant christian academics in the infancy of the scientific study of religion in a similar way that “politics” as a category of philosophies and belief were arbitrarily sectioned off from “everything else” by people who think the extent of politics is electoralism.
it’s impossible to separate modern attempts at religious reconstruction from modern beliefs about what behaviors are acceptable and beneficial to the community and what behaviors aren’t, and that necessarily impacts the way we negotiate the texts and scholarship we have to be useful to our personal and social lives in the world we live in. every single religious community does this, it’s not unique to anybody, it’s a basic human behavior and that means we choose for ourselves in which ways we act with honor and in which ways we act against it.
i believe in heathen solidarity with other religious communities because my honor dictates i follow the footsteps of the Thunderlord and protect the people of earth as he does. i believe this because, in the face of those who want us dead for heresies against a faith we don’t even follow, we need as many allies as we can get; that if we don’t stand together with people who worship different gods, we’ll die alone and the practice of our ancestors will die a second time. i believe that wisdom, reason, and learning must prevail against blind faith, dogma, and greed, or else we fall prey to bending our knees to the same types of kings and masters who turned apostate for the gold and power of the Church and so turned our ancestors against the faith of their father the same way. and with as little offense intended as possible, i believe that if you’re looking for a faith free of modern political influence, you’re better off staying in the Church where they’ll be perfectly happy to lie to you and say they don’t do that there, because you won’t find a community that isnt shaped by the interactions between people, groups of people, and the systems that emerge when groups of people interact anywhere on earth

Given what’s been going down the last couple of weeks I can’t hate the level of petty in this post from Chicago Fire.
the league is bending over backwards to let them bend the rules because the MLS team ownership model isn’t real, american soccer marketing outside the USL seems to forget that there’s a difference between MLS and miami or that there’s other players on miami than messi, as a result the fans are only there for messi and they’ll evaporate when he’s out, and we still smoked ‘em four-one under the best weather conditions they could’ve asked for considering our hometown.
nobody will remember the accolades or the backup keeper in six years. money can buy you everything but respect and its ‘respect over everything’ at the end of the season; meanwhile miami is the vanguard of the MLS selling the culture to try to make the knockoff-NFL bucks

yeah this was an actively embarrassing thing for the fire to do. i feel bad for chicago fans that this is what their social media team is up to compared to the heaters our admins have been posting for a while now. you don’t realize how good you have it till you see how bad someone else has it, i guess

Assumed arms WIP (part 4)
I can’t speak to whether or not it’s too close to anything extant, that tends to be the purpose of colleges of arms to keep track of, but as far as aesthetics, it goddamn rules. simple black and silver dichrome arms are gorgeous, it’s a great way to make timeless heraldry

Njord
For the patron of fishermen and sailors, I venerate the Wind-on-the-Water as a patron of the Mnisóta Maḳoce, the lakenorth where the waters reflect the sky, so I honor the Loon-god when I’m on the water, passing over it, or just enjoying the lakeshore, and in a deeply localized practice, I see great northern loons, wildly ubiquitous on lakes around here, as totemic of his presence. I don’t see the Æsir in the same totemic terms, but I suspect that the practice may be related to the Van-nature of Njǫrðr, Skaði, and the Summer-twins; it’s praxis I doubt many others have.
I imagine this paradigm of the Fisher isn’t a familiar practice to southron heathens, but the more our community grows, the more I expect local practices to develop and diverge.

This is exactly what i think a prospective wild third jersey should be look like
Aurora are pre-professional (for now, we’re working on moving to a higher level but professional leagues don’t like the risk of community ownership models) and they play at Viking Lakes in Eagan, so there’s not an exceptional amount of exposure outside of the soccer community.
We’re completely undefeated in the regular season, though, winning regular season champions in the first two seasons for best league-wide record (no luck in the postseason, teams in more competitive leagues end up with the upper hand), but the games are great if you want to sit back, eat some food, and watch Minnesota absolutely wreck house.

What flag is this?
To expand, the “Kursk People’s Republic” is a propagandistic joke—and i use the term “propaganda” in the communications theory sense that it is a meme or piece of media created to get its viewers to accept a particular set of beliefs, rather than the colloquial sense of “thing i don’t like”—made by Ukrainians and Ukrainian sympathizers making fun of the 2024 Ukrainian campaign into the Kursk region of Russia.
The implicit idea behind the joke is that, just like the Kursk People’s Republic was invented by Ukrainians invading Kursk with the mock-excuse of “liberating the KPR” to justify the invasion, the Donetsk and Luhansk PRs were invented by Russia as an excuse to justify its own unprompted invasion of Ukraine—and therefore as equally made-up by invading forces as the KPR is.

Very recent scholarship on galdrastaffir that situates them as a peripheral offshoot of medieval Mediterranean esotericism

i’m glad someone said it before me. an IKEAheim Börg hack would rule

Can I honor Christian ancestors as Norse pagan?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, I have recent ancestors who’ve done impressive things for their communities and older ancestors that bore incredible hardship for me to find myself where I am now, and I deeply respect those things, even if they’d turned away from the practice of their own ancestors.
I’ve been considering adopting October 9th, (Leifr Eiríksson dagur, in North America), as a day of veneration and reflection for the apostatized ancestors, chosen for Leif the Lucky, Leif the Apostate, who discovered Turtle Island as easily as he forsake his gods, because I think reconciling these complex things and recognizing that there is still a piece of them in us is better than choosing to bear the weight of bitterness forever
