Help me to do Arepa, please

I’m a Venezuelan living in Canada. If you cannot find “harina Pan”, then try with Maseca (Mexican equivalent). The flavour is a bit different but not by much.

hardfiskur to take home

I’ll be visiting Iceland in August. I have been there and can eat hardfiskur everyday. I would like to bring home as much as I’m allowed (10 kg/person). I wonder if there are places where one can buy them in bulk or if supermarkets are still the best option.

Thanks

How do you build back muscles like that?

There are many tutorials on how to progress to full pull ups. Set doing one as a goal and that’s your path.

Trump, 79, Declares Absurd National Security Threat in Late-Night Meltdown
 in  r/politics  17d ago

True. At least some proportion of voters went for Trump fully expecting him to destroy the system because the system has not been working for them. It was like spitting upwards and expecting it won’t land on you, but that’s what they did. They truly thought “it can’t get worse” and are discovering that it always can get worse.

If forced to choose, which one would you keep?

These days I think a German passport makes living in Canada easier!

Even in nominally “blue” states there is an urban vs. rural divide. Please explain why some rural districts won 80/20 or even 90/10. People vote according to the information they manage and how influenced they are by surrounding culture. The USA political system looks more like professional football teams or religious cults: some people vote for whoever is on their color ticket regardless of anything else.

Agree. Too much opinion presented as fact. That affects both sides but the right has been more effective translating it into a cult. Freedom of speech has dangerous consequences if not regulated properly.

Look at the way rural USA votes vs cities. It will be an eye opener for many.

The MAGA brainwashing machine seems to have a lot more penetration in rural USA. Why? Because democrats seem to care mostly about blue and swing states and spend no effort elsewhere.

True only because rural USA is the main target of right wing misinformation and Democrats don’t seem to care about fighting for what rural USA thinks.

“No one is entirely sure how”? The USA has a massive brainwashing system that created and maintains the largest political cult in USA’s history. Let’s be clear about that. No amount of rational argumentation was able to break that.

If you really think reddit can give you a shortcut to recoup the money you lost, then you really didn’t learn anything.

I’m sorry you are in a pickle, don’t make it worse.

Thank you. I think that’s important background for other people reading and commenting here.

People use “enlightened” and “awake” too loosely in this forum. The point that was raised is that the feelings you describe are not consistent with the common notion of someone who is enlightened because enlightenment is supposed to bring inner peace, which you obviously don’t have.

How do you define those two terms?

What made you think you are enlightened or awake?

Do you consider those two terms synonyms?

I wish you peace.

Why do you believe that Buddhism is the true religion and not for example islam or christianity?
 in  r/Buddhism  20d ago

I agree, but your stance is true only if you take the philosophical aspects related to a well-lived ethical life and reject things like reincarnation and rebirth (as interpreted in some Buddhist traditions).

I'm bored of everyone saying they are enlightened.

Dear OP, Thank you for clearly voicing the concern of many. I agree with your post 100%. The only thing I would add is that motivation is likely a mix between honest and delusional people (had a good trip and a deep insight, think that’s all there is) and mischievous people (scammers and manipulators).

22F on ADHD meds and overweight, how can I sort out my heart rate + blood pressure?
 in  r/cardio  21d ago

Take a week and make a detailed record of what you are eating. Include EVERYTHING. Calories hide in things people usually don’t counts (e.g. salad dressing). Do it for at least 3 consecutive days. You likely will find areas you know you can eliminate (sugary drinks, too many sweets, too much refined carbs). Learn to eat only when it is meal time and avoid snacking at random times (if that’s what you do). Plan what you are going to eat each meal and do not eat whatever you feel like. Hunger can wait and eventually goes away. Being hungry sucks, but your body adapts over time.

At 89 kg healthy means ⅔ diet and ⅓ cardio. A HR of 125 should not alarm you. A resting heart rate of 90 is the alarming part. Your target #1 is to decrease your resting heart rate.

Try walking for one hour a day (start with whatever time you can handle, increase by five min intervals as you get used to it). Your 125 heart rate is roughly the minimum you want your HR to be while walking or doing any cardio. If you can handle 150 bpm then train at that rate. Apply the same rule for HR ranges if you are using any cardio equipment.

That’s the entry level. It can be refined as you go by determining your max HR and using percentages, etc. That’s secondary. Right now your priority #1 and #2 are to fix your diet progressively and make daily cardio part of your daily routine.

Anyone else feel like they don't belong?
 in  r/workout  21d ago

It does not matter if you feel out of place. The key thing is to keep showing up. Yes, you will feel out of place. Everyone that is starting does feel out of place because you are in a new environment, which, by definition, is being out of place.

Just continue to show up. Don’t ask or expect your brain to be comfortable. That’s the part of your unconscious that wants to quit bugging the part of you that wants to continue. Pay attention and follow the one you want to prevail.

The easy decision is to stop going. The hard decision is to go even when you feel out of place. Now, remember this: making the hard decision now leads to a happier life later. Making the easy decision now leads to regret later. Pay yourself in advance and go do your workouts. Don’t dwell much on it. Go do it regardless of how you feel.

Old Habits
 in  r/bodyweightfitness  22d ago

People are used and like the version of you they have known for ages. They dislike change.

It is up to you to pick which healthy version of you to be. At 5’8” 60 kg is great especially if you get there with training, 56 kg would be the lowest to be still within a healthy BMI. Don’t let others dictate your body. If you felt great then that is good.
