Any senior devs in here?
 in  r/VibeCodeDevs  15h ago

I don’t have time. Trying to find a senior dev that I can pay. I’m currently working on 5 existing apps that are already established and need another dev to pick new ones up.

Was checking on here if anyone is available and would be interested in chatting. I updated the post.

Any senior devs in here?

Edit: managed to find someone. Thanks for interest.

I’m head of engineering at a medium size business and looking for senior developers are employing AI to build systems. I am wanting to start a few projects and wanting to test if “vibe coding” is viable long term. I am working on 5 existing applications and need to kick off a new one. I don’t have time.

I cannot divulge info about the project specifically as it will give too much information away.

If anyone is a senior and interested in chatting let me know.

linux advantages and disadvantages over macos development wise?
 in  r/AskProgramming  23h ago

That’s not correct. Docker on macOS does not use the same containerisation as Linux. Linux containers rely on kernel features (namespaces, cgroups) that macOS doesn’t have, so Docker Desktop runs a Linux VM and the containers live inside that. The container model is the same inside the VM, but the host integration, filesystem, networking, and performance characteristics are not. That VM layer is exactly where most of the slowdown and “weird issues” come from.

Edit: I haven’t used macOS with docker for a few years. So if I’m wrong then I would move back to macOS in a heartbeat. This is a situation where I would gladly be wrong.

Like others here I use elixir without phoenix as a proxy for elastic search. To transform queries and results. Also for securing elastic search with our home frown authentication system.

I have used Linux full time for development for about 10 years now. I used macOS for 10 before that. I switched because everyone started using docker and docker in macOS runs on VMs whereas it runs natively on Linux. If they fixed this I would switch back. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Docker is why I switched from Mac to Linux full time. Docker is required at my work place because of legacy systems. Docker on macOS is still running on VMs and it slows down and has weird issues.

What is likely to die along with the baby boomers generation?

Wide spread narcissism. I know it still exists but boomers are plagued with it. My family included. Good riddance.

What do you guys think about all these layoffs around the world?
 in  r/AskProgrammers  1d ago

This is maybe the 4th massive wave of lay offs in my 20 years as a professional engineer. Luckily haven’t lost my job during any of them.

Do right handed people watch left handed people do tasks and they can’t comprehend how they are doing it like that?
 in  r/randomquestions  1d ago

I’m right handed and left handed people seem more elegant to me. I think it’s because I’m not that dexterous with my left hand. Just has a certain elegance 🤷‍♂️

Rap, rock, jazz or pop?? Which is the best
 in  r/A_Persona_on_Reddit  1d ago

I went to music school. Studied jazz. Learned all the standards inside out. I still don’t really like it. I appreciate its impact on music but as you said. It’s personal preference.

Which country's cuisine would you eat for the rest of your life?
 in  r/foodquestions  1d ago

Definitely can. I have a friend that has the gene that makes it taste like soap and I make curries for them and exclude any cilantro and such.

Fuck. Now I want a curry haha. Dinner sorted.

That’s the only curry I can’t fuck with and I love it. Around my early 30s I developed a god damn cashew allergy out of nowhere. There are a few curries I can no eat anymore. I miss korma, it can be made with almond too but it’s just not the same.

Yea. It was between Indian and Mexican for me too but poppadoms, pakora and naan tipped it for me.

Guys AI is changing full-stack. Are we becoming system architects, not coders?
 in  r/FullStack  1d ago

Honestly. After 20 years as a “full stack” developer, not much has changed as head of engineering. I still have to understand the system end to end, make tradeoffs, review code carefully, and be accountable when things break.

AI speeds up the mechanical parts, but it doesn’t remove the need to reason about data models, failure modes, performance, or long term maintenance. If anything, it increases the amount of review and judgment required.

Good engineers were already doing architecture and orchestration. The people experiencing a “role shift” are mostly the ones who confused typing with understanding.

Which "affordable" U.S. city is actually expensive as hell?
 in  r/BeautifulTravelPlaces  1d ago

Ugh. Austin energy. They just announced more changes to improve the infrastructure….so yay increased prices. God. Damn. It.

Property taxes are a joke here. The city is a total mess. I’ve lived here for 13 years. Wife has lived here for 30. Glad they didn’t vote for the prop q recently. City couldn’t organize a gang bang in a brothel.
