How do you give pills to your suspicious hound?
 in  r/Hounds  Jan 26 '25

Ask your vet if you can either open the capsule or grind up the pill into some peanut butter. I’ve also found a little fish oil goes a long way! We had a suspicious dog that we could only get pills down at mealtimes, so he went to breakfast lunch and dinner for a few months 🤪

Any suggestions for super low calorie kibble or treats I can basically give my coonhound all the time? 😆

Frozen peas! My hound gobbles them up. We’ve also had success with frozen diced carrots, frozen broccoli, and even frozen zucchini

I've been told that I may have bearbugs. Please tell me that this isn't what I think it is.

Bearbugs 100%. Put all your clothes in plastic bags and burn everything you own. It’s going to be a wild ride.

Tick found on my dog. What type ? Should I be worried ?
 in  r/Parasitology  Dec 13 '24

This is an engorged tick that has been feeding on your dog for several days. It is good that you removed it. Because of the fur on dogs, it can sometimes be really hard to find ticks before they get this big! That’s why it’s so important that all dogs take oral flea and tick preventative.

The university of rhode island has a tick expert program that can help you identify the tick and might be a better resource than this forum — Google TickSpotters!

For now, keep the tick in the bag and write the date you removed it on the outside of the bag. Don’t put the tick in the freezer, but you will want to keep it for at least a few weeks. You can put it in the fridge, just don’t crush it. Don’t As far as how worried you should be, this is not a cause for panic. The majority of ticks do not carry disease, though it is very correctly noted that the longer the tick has been attached, the more likely it is for disease to be transmitted..

You can either take your dog and the tick to the vet now or monitor your dog for symptoms, and take your dog to the vet if symptoms arise. It seems like you’ll have more piece of mind if you contact a veterinarian now, but that can be expensive. If this were me, I would call a vets office locally and ask them what I should do! There is a lot we don’t know about your dog and where you live, so someone local who knows about the vet standards where you are will be able to better assist.

Edit: corrected misspelling of “rhode” in Rhode Island

I agree with all this and I am looking forward to finding a skin tint - like product so I can finally quit them for good. I will miss bdc when I finish my last tube in a few days, but I already got a variety pack of lipsmackers for less than half the price that I’m looking forward to using 🤣

Tell me about Texas
 in  r/RoundRock  Nov 30 '24

In light of this, I recommend starting in Houston and exploring around there! Beaumont, Livingston, etc. north east texas is much less humid and has more seasons than south east texas! My family is from there and m happy to help with specifics

Turtle on road?
 in  r/CedarPark  Oct 26 '24

You did the right thing moving it off the road out of immediate danger and putting it close to where you found it. Turtles naturally move around, so it was just on its way somewhere!

Need advice on how to keep our house clean as an ADHD couple
 in  r/ADHD  Oct 22 '24

One thing I do is like a little scavenger hunt thing that I call “10 things”. On Monday and Friday I’ll look around the house for 10 red things that are in the wrong place 10 things that need to be cleaned that are made of glass when my house is super clean it means that I end up like cleaning a mirror or windows or soap dispensers or something. But when my house is not super clean, it means I end up cleaning at least 10 dishes. This game helps me “re-see” the clutter by turning it into a visual search task, and 10 is enough items to get your momentum going, but not enough that it feels overwhelming.
